on top of it

Blazer: H&M; Dress: Rodarte for Target; Tights: Kushy Foot; Shoes: Mandee; Bangles: Kate Spade & H&M; Watch: Juicy Couture
For some time now, I've been obsessed with the top knot. It's the ultimate "pull-yourself-together-dammit" look. No matter what you're wearing, you look presentable and pretty. Dressed up and dressed down. Thing is, I always get lazy when I do my hair and combing all of my hair THAT high has proven to be quite the task. My arms get all tired and the result was always something that was almost perfect. I've asked coworkers (especially the ever stylish Chris) to help a sister out and tips and tricks were dished. Finally, I stopped bitching and made it happen.

too bad no one told me not to secure it so tightly. The bun was taken down immediately after these photos were snapped. #fail

Happy Saturday kiddos!

sometimes you have to let the clothing speak for itself

Blazer: Urban Outfitters; Top: random store in NYC; Jeans: Forever 21; Heels: Mandee; Bag: RACHEL Rachel Roy; Bangles (left hand): Kate Spade; Bangles (right hand): H&M; Watch: Juicy Couture; Necklace: PNK Elephant; Shades: Urban Outfitter

Yesterday the temperature hit up to 80 degrees in the city making it one of the most glorious days I've seen in a while. In an attempt to not miss out on the perfection Mother Nature laid upon us, I snuck off for a few minutes to snap a few outfit photos. I love this outfit so much, I can't quite find the right words. Can you imagine? Me, speechless. In all reality, there's nothing particularly special about it but something about the super lightweight blazer and the excess jewelry just seem...right.

This spring, I'm definitely into corals, yellows, royal purples and bright pinks + oranges so don't be shocked if that's all you see within the coming months.

HUDSON by Georgia May Jagger

Having been the face of HUDSON Jeans for the past three seasons, it only seems natural that Georgia May Jagger, daughter of a music legend and a 70s supermodel, pairs up with the brand for a capsule collection embodying a bit of rock and roll with a 70s flare. The collection - available now - is inspired by the rebellious soul of London, the ease and freedom of California as well as her mother’s vintage Wrangler collection.
photos taken at a recent HUDSON After Hours Event
The capsule features five styles, including N.0 The Faye, N.1 The Jerry, N.2 The Gonzales, N.3 The Georgia May, and N.4 The Ayesha in black, white, grey and blue washes. All of the jeans are midrise (forgiving) but with a skinny leg opening (sexiness).
“My collection has a whole new cut, they are based on the style of jeans my mum wore in Texas in the 70's. They are not high-waisted but they are a mid-rise which is great for us shorter girls and also very flattering on the hips and bum. We also are using new kinds of stretch denim fabrics exclusively developed for us which make them very comfortable. It was also really important that they be from a woman’s point of view so I asked all sorts of women - my mom and friends and family - for their input,” Georgia May Jagger

The ‘HUDSON BY GEORGIA-MAY JAGGER’ collection is sold in leading department and specialty stores domestically, internationally, and online at HudsonJeans.com.

no sleep 'till brooklyn...

Top (actually a dress): Forever 21; Skirt: Urban Outfitters; "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" Bangle: Kate Spade; Cuff: Avon; Bangles: H&M; Boots: Shoe Dazzle; Hat: H&M

no real post here ladies (and gents??). this outfit photo was taken several days ago and I'm now getting around to publishing. while the skirt was everything and more when I purchased it, I felt that the execution of this outfit was rather poor. what does one wear with a pleated tulle skirt? clearly I don't know.

the only saving grace is the last minute addition of Chris' hat. it's from H&M and I must say I spotted it several times but decided to not purchase. now that i've tried it on, I think I just may go out and get it. sorry Chris...I'm totally jocking your style.

also, can we discuss my new bangle from Kate Spade? I'm obsessed. I've wanted it for about a year now and when my coworker spotted it on the website just a few days before Kate Spade held a Friends & Family event, I knew it was destiny.

Happy Monday kiddos!

This Spring, Join FITE

Several weeks ago (try a month ago), I attended a press event held by esteemed skincare brand ‎Dermalogica in celebration of their commitment to Financial Independence Through Entrepreneurship (FITE). FITE is a global empowerment platform powered by Dermalogica founder Jane Warwund and Kiva.org, the nonprofit leader in microfinance.

Just as their name suggests: to provide women entrepreneurs access to small loans that will help them start or grow a business; and to help educate the public at large about the benefits of empowering women entrepreneurs.

How can you help?
With every purchase of a FITE-sleeved Dermalogica product, you will receive a code. Visit joinFITE.org to redeem your code and Dermalogica will donate a $1 microloan - on your behalf - to a female entrepreneur in the country of your choice. Playing With Color

Blazer:  H&M; Tank: Forever 21; Pants: H&M; Shoes: Mandee

I was recently inspired to start incorporating more brights into my wardrobe. While I typically reserve super brights for the summer, I figure why not pull 'em out at the fist sight of spring sunshine? As I sit here typing way it's a rainy day in NYC filled with gray, cloudy skies and chicks donning wellies instead of wedges. Trust me, if I could turn back time and recreate this look, I'd do it all again.

Love Me, Love Me Not: Baby Phat L♥V ME by Kimora Lee Simmons

Fun Fact: all throughout high school, I was terribly obsessed with all things Kimora Lee Simmons - namely Baby Phat. I bought her bags - every semester - and rocked it like nobody's business. Come senior year, her first scent "Goddess" was released and I went through three bottles. THREE!

While my obsession has waned a bit, I've never been one to refuse a tiny bejeweled bottle by the famed mother of two and mogul. This Spring, Kimora must have sensed my desire for something slightly sensual but unassuming. Why else would she release L♥V ME?
This powerful, flirtatious fragrance captures the essence of feminine strength and says to the world, “LOVE ME for the essence of who I am… Admire me for my strength and spirit. Cherish me for my passion and drive. Respect me for my aspirations that DARE ME to dream. What’s most important is that you LOVE ME …for me.”
Housed in a small glass bottle with a red jewel-like cap, this scent opens up with Apricot Blossom, Tangerine, and Passion Fruit. Initially a bit sweet, it goes into notes of Frangipani Blossom, Jasmine Petals and Tiger Orchid. Finally, the drydown is a soft and warm with notes of Vanilla Blossom and Sandalwood.

I will say that some may find the tiny size of the bottle a bit off-putting for $28 but 1) it's perfume and 2) it's Baby Phat. I love the size, however, as I throw it in my bag and lightly spritz it throughout the day. All in all, this is a total win.

Baby Phat L♥V ME (1.0 oz) retails for $28 in select stores nationwide, such as Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Kohl’s and Kmart.

More Than Just Makeup: Welcome to DEX New York

Me wearing Harlem Night's Sapphire eyeshadow. Photo: Court and Hudson
Tucked neatly away in New York's Upper East Side, is an urban oasis waiting to be discovered. One of New York's best kept secrets, DEX New York is somewhere beauty girls must visit.

DEX New York Cosmetics is a natural mineral makeup line, made modern. It's created with every woman’s beauty needs and wants in mind. It's not the ashy, gray mineral makeup your momma knew! DEX is all about bold, beautiful and sex makeup that cares for your skin at the same time.

With New York City as the inspiration, the line draws many of its product's names from the city's most notable streets, neighborhoods, getaways and notorious venues (hello, Wall Street Onyx, Harlem Night’s Sapphire, Sag Harbor and Studio 54).
Essentially, DEX New York Cosmetics embraces women’s true beauty while recognizing the importance of healthy skin. The DEX New York product line prides itself on being more than just makeup. It is skincare in every eye shadow, blush, bronzer and founda- tion. To achieve this phenomenon, DEX New York researchers created an innovative, restorative complex, which is infused into DEX New York makeup products. This restorative complex enhances the benefits of the brand’s product line. DEX’s formula keeps women’s skin healthy and youthful, while giving them the glamorous look that they desire. - DEX New York

What makes it so unique?
DEX New York cosmetics contain items that not only provide you with amazing pigmentation but antioxidants (including Vitamin A & E), Fibroblast Stimulant (palmitoyl hexapeptide-14 - Fulvic Acid in human speak - which, when combined with colloidal gold, stimulates collagen production and the proliferation of fibroblast cells as well as Colloidal Gold (aids the aforementioned complex in its ability to reach the hypodermis without absorption.)

What should I get?
If you're a girl who isn't afraid to wear bold and/or bright colors, I suggest checking out their mineral eye-shadows - each paraben free and fortified with their advanced anti-aging peptide complex. The photo above is one of my favorites because it shows the amazing pigment quality of DEX products. I've been weary of mineral makeup because I like my makeup to pack a punch. Well, this knocked me wayyyy out ;) They're Mineral Pressed Shadow in Harlem Nights Sapphire ($18) is a deep bluish purple that can be worn lightly in the daytime or smoked out for an evening look. At the same time, if you prefer light, neutral colors the brand has an assortment of lights (with hints of shimmer in a few) to kick up your everyday look a notch).

Where can I get it?
If you live in New York, I urge you to visit the studio. The offer a variety of workshops - for makeup junkies and makeup artists alike - to hone their makeup skills or simply learn what works best for them. Not in NYC? Check out the brand's website for more info on their products.

DEX New York products are available on www.dexnewyork.com.

you get the idea...

Blazer: H&M; Jumpsuit: Mandee; Bangles: Kate Spade, Avon and H&M; Shoes: House of Harlow 1960 (gifted)
Today was one of those days where it was "GO" from beginning to end. I was so buried into my computer and workload, I let the day (and sunlight) slip away from my fingers. My brain = fried. No witty remarks about my wild, animal print onesie. No hilarious jokes of my sky high House of Harlow 1960 wedges (though I did topple - not completely over! - two and a half times). I have found that my brain is completely incapable of processing anything right now.

Absolutely nothing.

Is this life? Is this what it means to be a working girl of the world?

Never one to let an outfit go to waste, Chris and I desperately tried to salvage the day. I am left with photos taken in a dimly lit office, begging what little daylight we had left to work in my favor.

but I mean, really, you get the idea right?

Molton Brown Vitalising Vitamin AB+C Collection

The warmer weather New York has been seeing has me in a summer state of mind. Not only am I shopping for brights and sandals, I'm prepping my skin with lots of moisturizer (ashiness is soo not attractive!).
On my radar for Summer 2011 is Molton Brown’s latest additions to its Vitalising Vitamin AB+C collection, the Body Hydrating Gel ($28) and Eau Fraîche ($58). With zesty anti-oxidant vitamins A, B and C, Vitalising Vitamin AB+C Body Hydrating Gel absorbs into the skin without leaving any greasy residue. White jojoba beads explode on contact to lock in moisture, the gel is best paired with summer shorts and flirty tops. Vitalising Vitamin AB+C Eau Fraîche is an exotic Mediterranean fusion of citrus, green fruits and aromatic woods with notes of Italian mandarin, green fig and Lemon tree to subtly scent and celebrate the season.

Molton Brown Vitalising Vitamin AB+C range is available at all Molton Brown emporia, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barneys, Neiman Marcus and at www.moltonbrown.com.
