Throwback Joint...

OMG!! So I'm sitting here watching "13 Going on 30" (with Jennifer Garner) and I just had a throwback moment.

There's a scene when she's in her office flipping through...Lisa Frank folders!!! How fun!!!!

Am I the only one who remembers them?!?! I was obsessed...they were gooodddd!! They got so much of me and my friend (Adriana)'s money. OOOOOoooOOOoo...all those wonderfully pretty bright colors!!!!

That was the start for my love of all things purple, pink, blue, and all bright colors! Who did I love most:

GENIE!!!!!!
Anyone with purple hair, I'm down with them. Oh I was hooked on this. Every school year I bought a new binder set, pens galore, and folders up the wazoo. The planners were divine (thus starting my love for organizing my life through pen and paper...I'm useless without it).

ROXI & ROLLI!!!!!!
These two cats were like my personality-the two sides of me (deep- I know). These girls (well, cats) were like who I was and (secretly) wanted to be when I was little.

Oh man...the flashbacks...

Now wonder I'm obsessed with bright clothes and even brighter makeup!!

I LOVE SEX

...and the City!!!

THE MOVIE WAS FABULOUS! The outfits divine! The product placement was in your face!! Yes, it was saturated with total and blatant advertisements but I loved it anyway! And now I will post pics from various websites of the outfits that I've enjoyed. I'll give you guys 'till Tuesday to see the movie and then we can all gush out our fave parts...k? =)

Classic and Elegant
We've all seen (and wanted) this outfit by now
Don't you wish you and your friends were this glamorous?!!
one word...BELTS
Loveee it!
And finally...
now that is a classic....

To the MAX!!

As the weather warms up, I find myself with a MAJOR dilemma. I really have like NO spring/summer clothes. Up until now my life consisted of jeans and t-shirts. I have the occasional dress pants/slacks and what i call my "interview" clothes ('cuz, duh, I only wear them to interviews). Other than that, I have about 2 dresses (sad but true) and like 2 cocktail dresses (that look more appropriate for the sixteen year old in me (...that's cuz I had them since I was about 15/16 years old...)

Pathetic...I know

I'm trying to change up my style a bit-not for no boy or because "everybody's doing it"- but because I feel that as I get older I might as well look the part. This hit home when, coming from work, I sat on the train (pissed!) and looked around me. I was surrounded by a bunch of kids- I don't know if they were junior high or high school but either way they annoyed the hell out of me. As I sat looking at these kids-who really need some kind of after school program...was I the only one who got involved at school?- I realized that I look like one of them. What made it worst was when I got off the train to transfer to the bus (which is also the bus the kids got on- I live in a popular section of Brooklyn), the driver said, "You kids need to do something after school, you know". Normally I would have nodded my head in agreement but I stood there, flabbergasted, because I realized- he was talking to me!!!! THE NERVE!!

Needless to say, I told him a piece of my mind and let him KNOW that I ain't no 8th grader!

This got me thinking...when am I ever going to give up this look? I'm not saying I want to be all dressed up all the time but seriously...I can't blend in with these kids. No wonder I can't get a decent guy- they think I'm 16!

So...as the weather warms up I've decided that my style will have to go from jeans and graphic tee to WHAM! **I'm trying to figure out what WHAM! is while on a budget**

To begin my Hot style in Hot weather:

The Maxi Dress...

I noticed this trend on the Spring/Summer '08 collection and always thought how I'd look with it. And pair it off with all the brights, I figure- it's go time:

I know black is a bit basic and that colours are "in" for the warmer weather but really sometimes simple is better. These are great for just lounging around with hopes of going out to dinner later on that night with your girls. I love the tiny halter strings and the embellishment on the bust on the ingwa; melero dress (left). And strapless is great because it gives off that carefree vibe and even though this YAYA AFLALO dress (right) is black the gold detail going down the middle of the dress gives it that extra kick. Pair these with some gold bangles and gladiator flats and you got yourself an easy day to night dress.

Brown will always be a fave colour for me. I can do no wrong in a lovely brown outfit. But the wild patterns on these dresses (dvf vintage dress is on the left and the BCBG is on the right).

But of all the dresses I've seen these three are my absolute favorite. The colours are vivid but not in your face BOLD. Add simple sandals and a stack of bracelets and you got yourself a date outfit. These are carefree yet sexy in a subdued way (he best way possible in my opinion for a girl to instantly look sexy). I love the Rachel Pally dress (right) because of the little U-ring detail and ruching along the bust. Being flat chested this will come in handy...lol. The Juicy Couture (left) dress is pretty because of the red floral pattern and since I'm dark skin this color will pop against my skin tone. Now if only I had a date this summer (but you never know...summer has just begun!!)

On the more affordable end, these two lovely creations from H&M will do just fine (sine H&M doesn't have an online store, I did that little "Dressing Room" thingie, thus explaining the SIMS looking character):

Now the thing is trying to find this at an actual H&M...in your size.

wish me luck guys!

Jewelssss....

So we all know that the BIG thing is fashion at the moment is costume jewelry. Now I don't know about you but costume jewelry has always been in fashion for me simply because...I'm broke! I don't $10,000 to spendon a watch or fancy bracelet. If I had the money though, heh, I'd probably be stupid enough to do something like that.

I love them because
a) they're cheap -er, affordable
b) they make statements
c) they dress up your basic jeans and a tee combo (that seems to be my uniform as of late)

So you can imagine the hysteria that ensued when I heard about Jewels of Denial (fun name, non?)

They have such cute jewelry at my kind of prices...

Let's play a game called...Guest That Price!!!!...
(insert cheering audience)

Brace yourself:::
1. the coctail ring...$8.99
2. the CZ diamond ring...$9.99
3. Heart pendant chain...$18.99

Babiesss....

OMG!!!

I so did not know that my FAVORITE person ever is pregnant!!!!!!!!!
Alessandra Ambrosio is pregnant! For those who don't know Alessandra is the sexy angel from Victoria's Secret:
As of March 2008, Alessandra stated on her website:

Hi everyone!

First of all, i would like to wish a happy new year to everybody and say that i have been really busy working a lot. Also, I would like to announce some really great news! My boyfriend Jamie and I were surprised in the beginning of the year with some delightful news that we are expecting our first child together!

This is a dream come true and a really special moment in our lives! I'm very happy to say that our baby looks healthy and that we are really excited to be mom and dad and raising a child together. I hope this year for you all has started full of amazing surprises like it has been with me.

For the time being, I ready to start to enjoy and dedicate myself to this new chapter in my life and I hope to be working soon enriched by our love for our new baby.

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....

Now if you know me, you know I love/ look up to this woman so I 'm super happy for her!!!

Oprah II

Now we all know the power of Oprah...I mean women go ga-ga over this one lady. She's changed lives (hell I wish I got a car just for being in the audience) as well as made tons of people cry, laugh, and cry and laugh all at once.

So how and why are people trying to compare Tyra Banks to Oprah? Now no offense to Tyra, I love her and all but since when is she as influential and inspirational as Oprah Winfrey? I'm not trying to bash Tyra-like I said- I love her to pieces-but even she's said she doesn't want to be compared to Oprah:

Says Banks: ''Oprah Winfrey is a mogul. Martha Stewart is a mogul. I'm probably a mogul in the making. I'm almost there.''

Banks has been compared to her onetime employer Oprah Winfrey. ''In the beginning, I used to hate it,'' she says. ''I used to cry at night just because of the pressure. And I didn't want her thinking that I was saying it.'' Banks is also quick to shoot down the connection — respectfully, of course. ''It's flattering. [But] if I was white, I don't think they'd be saying it. I think a lot of it has to do with being a black woman.'' (A call to Winfrey's office for comment was not returned.)
--Entertainment Weekly

But I can see where the public is going with this whole Tyra/Oprah thing. Both women are fiercely independent and making waves for women everywhere (Oprah was one of the first most prominent black female journalists while Tyra made waves for black models everywhere).

The whole reason why I'm talking about this is because our homegurl Ty Ty is gracing the cover of The New York Times Magazine (out this Sunday)

Tyra says in the mag:

My mom said, ‘This is not just glamour — it is a business.’ So when I arrived in Paris, I was ready.”

She went alone (“I wish my mother had forced me to learn French, because I’m sure I would have been fluent”) — and in her first season, in 1991, booked 25 fashion shows, including Yves St. Laurent and Chanel. “I was successful but I was intimidated by Paris,” Banks said. “It was too beautiful. It was too much for my mass-American self. Even to this day, and this is sad, I am too mass-American for Europe. We were in Rome for ‘America’s Next Top Model’ and I said to my v.p. at Bankable: ‘Look at this gorgeous architecture! But if there was a Wendy’s and a Wal-Mart right in the middle of it — bam! It would be even more gorgeous.’ ”

Well, she has her smash hit, “America's Next Top Model,” (which has created tons of copycats (Britain & Australia to name a few), a popular daytime talk show (too hilarious yet thought provoking- dressing up as a homeless person to feel heir pain..deep)- which has just been renewed for another two years- a reported annual salary of $18 million. Oh, and she was named one of the Most Influential People in America by Time.

Tyra is building an empire of her own. Much props Tyra...much props.

Ce soir est notre soir...

...heyyy what do ya' think? Me? Speak French? YUP!! 4 years in high school baby!

Anywhoo...

I don't know about you all but I was/ am one of those cheesy girls that secretly (or not so secretly) thinks (and plans) her wedding. Even though I spent most of my youth in baggy jeans and my older brother's T-shirts, anytime i wasn't with the boys I was in my room with Suzie and Theresa (I refused to call her Barbie..hehe) making faux weddings. I remember cutting my white T-shirts to make little "wedding" dresses (and some really cute tube tops!).

This fascination with weddings only intensified when I was apart of the wedding party for my older cousin/ brother's godmother. I loved going to the rehearsals and being with my cousins. I loved the fittings for the dresses (her mother was a dress maker so she literally made everyone's dress). It was a pale blue dress with emerald rhinestones along the sides. It looked so promising when she was sewing them and I was excited about them-up until I saw the finished product. Sorry, cousin, but those dresses were horrible!!!! When I say bad...I mean BAD!!!

First, the sleeves were so puffy it looked like somebody stuffed the shoulders with inflatable shoulder pads. The bodice of the dress was really pretty and simple but the farther south you went on the dress, the uglier it got. The dress itself was poufy on the bottom so I looked like a swollen mess. The sad part was only the girls my age had such horrifying dresses. The older bridesmaids had these beautiful one shoulder dresses. You have noooo idea how badly I wanted to snatch their dresses or step on the mini train so it would tear- evil..I know. But if us younger ("cuter") gals couldn't look fly...no one can!I shudder at the slightest remembrance of that dress. I gladly handed it over to my mother so she can send it to another cousin of mine in Haiti (she thought that dress was absolutely gorgeous...still don't understand that girl).

But even now, I can tell yo what my future wedding dress will look like (I could tell you but for fear of copycats I won't. Just know that Barbie has a huge influence). I even know the ring- I told you I planned it all out...all my future husband has to do is pay for half (or all if he wants..hehe), pay for the ring, and show up.

But you can have the perfect ring...
And the perfect dress...

But there's something else that's equally as important...the invitations! Now some of you may be thinking...what? But seriously, think about it...

It's your big day. you want everyone to remember it. but guess what...they've misplaced your invitation! So now not only do they not remember when it is, they don't know where it is and how to get there!!!

Dramatic? Yes but you get the picture...

And being that summer is especially notorious for weddings...I figure why not help out! Imagine my surprise when I saw this website,1st Class Wedding Invitations. I seriously fell in love! They have tons(!) of invitations to choose from and each of them are beautiful (I'd hate to be the bride picking and choosing).

But me being me, I've definitely found a few that I'd use for my wedding (it all depends on the theme, color scheme, etc.) So here are my pickings and choosings.

Since purple is my favorite color it's only natural that I'd pick the Purple Castle theme.

This invitation has a picture of a beautiful romantic castle sketched in purple on bright white vellum. The names peek through a die-cut on the bottom as a horse drawn carriage approaches the embossed castle.

All together now...awwwwwwwwwwww

This is whimsy and elegance combined oh so beautifully.

Another invitation that caught my eye is the Aqua bordered invitation. This reminds me of Tiffany's and I'm just crazy about Tiffany's! (and now we all walk to the DVD player and insert Breakfast at Tiffany's)...
No matter what, I know that there will be a Tiffany's inspired something at my wedding and the invite is a good way to go. But honestly, this is a bit too plain for my wedding...

Now these pictures are a bit small only because my computer is so odd and things come out this big on it but on the website there's this cool little zoom feature. This let's you see the quality of the invitations in great detail which is cool because considering the fact that you are ordering them online and not in person- you need all the help you can get!

FUN FACT::: This zoom feature is something no other wedding invitation site has. I've checked out some other sites and sure enough it's just a picture and you can't really see much of it.

So yeah...this was a lengthy post! =) But I mean I can talk about weddings all day...but I have a hot plate of lasagna calling my name

C'mon Blogger!

Ok so my recent post about my new blog (Hot Child in the City) is so far going bad =(

Blogger seems to think that it's a spam blog or something like that and has locked it!!! People over at blogger...I swear it's not spam, it's beauty! lol

So 'till I figure out what's going on, beauty posts will remain here...=(

Projects Projects Projects

Ok....so I've decided that instead of using Miss Whoever-You-Are as a fashion AND beauty blog I might just give her a little sister... Hot Child in the City.

This new blog will serve as primarily a beauty blog. As much as I love fashion and all of the fantasies they provide, beauty is something that is so accessible and another love of mine. So, I've decided to give both blogs a niche so to speak.

Fear not! If you don't feel like typing in a new web address to see the latest in beauty, the whole fashion and beauty postings will still occur on Miss Whoever-You-Are. At the moment, Hot Child in the City is kind of going through a trial period (see if i can actually maintain two blogs, what the reaction is, etc.).

Also note that if you are on my blogroll on Miss Whoever You Are, I will be adding you to Hot Child as well. Just because there are two, doesn't mean I want to lose all of the friendships that I've made thus far. If, however, you don't want to be associated with Hot Child, let me know and you will promptly be removed.

I just felt that it wasn't fair to those readers who started reading Miss Whoever-You-Are for the fashion and they are reading beauty updates most of the time.

Plus I wanted to see how great of a multi-tasker I am =)

Cheers!

Fifi Awards

On Tuesday night, fashion's finest were at the Armory celebrating the Fragrance Foundation's 36th annual FiFi Awards (Fifi...cute name no?). Coty was the night's biggest winner.

FYI: Coty has launched the Intimately Beckham's perfumes

Vera Wang even got the Hall of Fame Award (she has created several perfumes Coty). Winners also included

Procter & Gamble Co., the Giorgio Armani Beauty (a division of L'Oréal USA), Avon Products Inc., the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc., Hermès and Chanel.

Winners of the night include:

Marc Jacobs Daisy:

My personal favorite light perfume of the season...

Christian Lacroix- Rouge

Greatest collaboration (in my opinion) between high end name with my kind of prices (it was sold through Avon)

Intimately Beckham
(both men and women's won!) I'm a huge Beckham fan so I'm super happy!

For the complete list of winners, click here

To see videos of the actual event, it's available through WWD

ta ta for now huns!

Everything made easy...

So the economy is a slump (in the US) and everyone's worried about money and trying to save blah, blah, blah...everyone but me that is. I seem to be the only person that is shopping her life away-well technically...window shopping. See, I don't necessarily have the money so I make mental notes (and sometimes actually set alarms on my phone..sad, I know). I make an inventory of
a)things I like
b) things I like and want, and
c) things I like, want, and am actually going to get

Again, sad- I know.

It does get irritating thought for the salespeople (at least it bothers me) when people come in and make you pull out everything "to see" and not actually buy anything. Actually, it's really irritating.

This is where the internet comes in. On days where I'm just too lazy to leave my house and go into stores, I just sit in front of my not so trusty computer and click, click, click. The best part is that I can put things in a cute little shopping cart, rather than mental notes and scribbled pieces of paper.

And I have found the most perfect website...so perfect and simple I'm actually kind of mad I didn't think of it myself...can you take a guess?

www.shopping.com

Original, no?

They have everything from digital cameras, computers, jewelry, lingerie, garden stuff (I don't know why I'm mentioning it but hey some very fashionable people are into gardening, I guess). And not only do they have a US website...there's a UK site too so all my peoples from across the pond can shop shop shop!!! (Am I the only one excited yet?). Another good thing about this site? They have product reviews so you kind of get an idea of what you're looking at/buying AND they find different "stores" or places that sell what you are looking for. Just for the heck of it I looked up the LG Prada phone and they found three different websites with different prices (by the way it's $375 on amazon.com but is currently out of stock compared to $500 on J&R's website)

(phone of my dreams...)

I love all in one shopping mostly because
a) I'm lazy and sometimes don't want to go to all these different websites to look for a shirt
b) I"m plain lazy
.....hehehe....

But how much fun is this website?!?!?! The little link-y thing I have above leads to the UK site (odd, I know) so any of my US folk could just go on shopping.com.

Nike Dunks: Floral Liberty Pack

Not too long ago a friend of mine bought a pair of Nike Dunks that I personally feel in love with. Maybe it was the purples or the flowers but whatever it was...it was love at first sight. It's no secret that I love Nike Dunks (for those who don't know Dunks are iconic sneakers...like legends in the sneaker biz. Originally worn by pro-basketball players and later by...everyone else). Its was said that the Nike designers were inspired by the signature fabrics at the Liberty department store during a visit in the summer of 2006. My friends' pair is to the left. And the pair on the right is something that I was thinking of getting but:
a) it's not high tops (and I prefer hi tops)
b) it's wayyy too similar to my friends' pair...I hate having something that other people have-especially someone so close. And I know she won't like me copying her kicks (LOL)

But I was browsing the internet when I stumbled upon other Floral Liberty Dunks by Nike:

(Nike Liberty Dunks in Wilshire and Pepper )

Ok, I know what what you're thinking "ummm...that's still your friend's sneaker" Well...yes...BUT my friend's was mostly gray with a patch of florals...these are purely floral (I know..I'm relentless in my quest for justifying this purchase)
But the more I look at it, the more bothersome it gets (sorta). I don't know what it is but maybe this is too much flowers for me. but the purple ones (below) don't bother me as much as the pink (above).

Now these yellow lovelies are right up my alley.

They may not be high tops but still...I'll live. I have decided that yellow will be my colour d'été. Well, yellow, purple, and pink =) Purple and pink are always my colors no matter what season. I like how all of the brights work together instead of clashing.

I may want to be the type of girl that wears high heels and blazers but sometimes there's nothing more comfortable than a pair of Dunks, tight skinny jeans, and a great graphic tee....fresh...

MAC Neo Sci-Fi

From the website:
Spinning glamour into another orbit: our magnetic field of hot fluorescents, modern buffs, beiges and flesh tones are destined to test the laws of your style gravity. With these supersonic shades and neon orange compacts, go shock the galaxy!

Now if you've been reading this blog for a while you know of my love for all things bright...especially makeup! So excuse me if I am a little bit overjoyed!!! like seriously...MAC must have been reading ths blog or something! But upon closer inspection online...the makeup colors themselves don't seem that bright
. It's a a load of beiges and flesh tones- which is cool..but... but if you know me, I also love things in cute little packages. So while this might not be the brightest color, it makes up for it in the neon orange packaging. -Yeah, that's right...I said neon orange packaging.

Here's the rundown:

Lipglasses
  • Soft & Slow Pale beige with gold pearl
  • Pink Grapefruit Pink-orange with gold pearl (This one sounds like something I'd get)
  • Naked Space Creamy natural peach
  • Supreme Bronze brown with white pearl

Lipsticks

  • Sunsonic Gold with white pearl
  • Electro Brilliant orange
  • Astral Mid-tone brown with red pearl
  • Pleasureseeker Creamy peach colour
  • Sci-Fu-Delity Burned red with golden pearl (my pick out of the bunch)

Nail Lacquer

  • Phosphor Buzzing yellow
  • Neon 8 Brilliant orange with orange pearl
  • Plasma Blu Turquoise with white pearl (I'm sooooooo looking forward to this one)
  • Metalist Copper with white pearl

Now what are these beauties you ask...good question (LOL)...from what I gather:
  • Volcanic Ash Exfoliator The natural volcanic ash and sugar crystals productcleans, hydrates and turns skin into softness.
  • Charged Water From the diamonds coming from, with vital ions recharged.
  • Lip conditioner The special, two-sided product helps the removal of epidermic cells successfully with one side while hydrating and condition the sensitive skin of the lips with the other side

  • Plush Lush Mascara in Plushblack Deep Black
  • Cremestick Liner a creamy, highly pigmented, retractable lip liner
    • 80%: a deep deep cocoa

Make Money Blogging Chicas!

Ok so America is in a recession but I haven't let that stopped me from spending money. But what IS stopping me is the fact that my "job" isn't really doing much for me financially. Honestly retail is not my cup of tea (I used to be in banking for three years then stupidly quit because of promises of more hours and better pay...liars). But I do love MissWhoever-You-Are as it provides an escape for me. There's nothing better, to me, than sitting down and talking about what beauty products/ fashion news/ trends that interest me most. And you know what best about this...there are people who actually read (and some brave souls dare comment).

So after hearing about PayPerPost (from several bloggers) I finally decided to take a chance after reading Frappelattes I decided to take this chica's advice and sign up. And I must say I am happy I did.

So from now on MissWhoever-You-Are will begin doing some sponsored posts via PayPerPost! Don't worry- I am NOT selling out! PLUS...PayPerPost’s blog ethics policy fits well into MissWhoever-You-Are and what I am about.I'm simply trying to maximize every opportunity I get and this seems like something that can benefit both me and you (the readers).

PayPerPost is an affiliate network where advertisers pay them to pay you to review their products! So no matter what you blog about (in my case fashion and beauty) PayPerPost has an opportunity for you. And, some pay very (very) well. It's just a time for me (and you guys should you choose to sign up) to make money.

I am impressed!

I mean when you think about it we (bloggers) review products day after day so why not make it even more fun! I will make sure that all topics will provide you guys with the latest on beauty products, fitness tips (though I must admit...I'm kind of lazy), and more. So when you think about it, it's what I do everyday! By being a part of PayPerPost, I know that all my hard work/time spent at Sephora, on the internet, and elsewhere not only satisfies you, but compensates myself as well! You can join in on the fun too!

And look, like I said, I have an addiction to Sephora like nobody's business- someone has to help me acquire all those tubes of lip gloss!!!

Ugly Betty Season Finale

How cute is Ugly Betty?!?!?! I mean seriously? Why haven't I watched this show before tonight!? I remember watching Season 1 but then school got in the way and I never make it home on time to watch it.

But other than the striking resemblance-ok similarities...like Betty, I too, wear red glasses (Prada) with braces (Dr. Rogers)- I feel that this show is too good to be true. I fell in love!

Originally, I wanted to watch it because my homegirl Naomi Campbell was making a guest appearance and maybe La Lohan might be staging her comeback...it's just a thought.

Not only was my homegirl in attendance, but so were Joe Zee and Roberta Myers (yes the actual creative director and editor in chief were there). Overall it was a cute way to make a cameo...move over Nina Garcia! You're not the only one who can
make it on television!

Victoria's Secret Sale!!!

Ok for those who don't know, Victoria's Secret is having their HUGE Semi Annual sale (I haven't seen any signs in stores but online and via their catalog their is major Sale!). But I couldn't help but notice while on The Beauty of Life that the prices in the beauty section are heart stopping!!!

I nearly fainted!!

Anna Sui Rouge "S" Shimmer Lipstick...went from $20 to...$6.99. HECK YEAH!!!!!! NEED I SAY MORE!!!

I'm not usually one for shimmer lipstick (gloss yes...) but I will definitely be dishing out the $6.99 for this bad boy. It promises a moisturizing pearlized glow...why not?

Also on sale is this oh so pretty eye shadow also by Anna Sui. Now I own one of these in turquoise blue and let me tell you...I love it. It goes on so smooth and really pops! And at $6.99 looks like I'll be stocking up!When it comes to lip gloss, I play no games. It started with one tube of Smackers and I haven't looked back since. Now that I'm all grown up (kinda...sorta...) I play with big girl gloss...like this Vincent Longo Diamond Lip Gloss ($8.99!!!).

They had me at "Diamond"...
