Ticking Away

Lately everywhere I go, I'm noticing the strangest things...

Watches...

Now I know watches aren't strange or weird or anything but it's the fact that I'm drawn to them, I notice them more. Every since the 8th grade when my mother bought me this really cute Tigger watch, I've been obsessed. It was my first time having a "grown up" watch...read: a watch that wasn't digital and didn't have the little cute pop up thingies on the straps.

I love my Tigger watch and still have it (I've been meaning to get the glass changed since it cracked and to get new batteries).
But these watches that I'm attracted to nowadays are so...grown and elegant. So I've dedicated this post to what I want but can' afford (and even some lookalikes that are just wiser in price hehe).

Chanel J12 GMT Automatic Watch This watch is so cool (out of my price range) because it simultaneously displays the time in two different time zones: the local time in the zone visited (shown on the main dial) and the home time (shown on the 24-hour calibrated bezel). The hour is indicated by the additional chrome-plated hour hand featuring a red arrow for perfect readability. Sweet, huh

Now this lookalike from Toywatch is really clever but I don't think I'd pay $1500 for a Chanel lookalike. Toywatch are known for their lightweight, over sized plastic watches but this one is actually ceramic and not plastic acting like ceramic.

You can't talk about watches without mentioning at least one Cartier watch. If I had money to spend I'd definitely own one of these: Cartier Pasha C Watch . This bad boy is made of stainless steel and is water resistant (up to 100 meters). Can we all say gorgeous?!!!!?!

Now for those who don't want to get rid of the kid inside, these Hello Kitty watches are très adorable but the price ($1295.00) is just out of this world...
For something more elegant, I'd definitely get this David Yurman Madison Watch. When I think of David Yurman I just think of pure elegance and this watch proves my theory. Details: 18-karat yellow gold & White diamond set bezel (drooling...) and it has a satin strap....
I love Christopher Bailey (and secretly want to marry him) so it's only natural that I'd put something from Burberry. The Check-Strap Watch (right) is the more classic Burberry look and feel to it so I think it's a must for anyone who loves the classics. While the Round Watch (left) is more girly and up-to-date trend-wise.

If you've been reading this blog for a while...this is no secret and if you're new to this blog then you will eventually have this emblazoned in your brain...I LOVE JUICY COUTURE! All the pinks and girly-ness! It's absolutely divine! So of course I'd put this on my list of wants (and since I work at a store owned my Liz Claiborne-as is Juicy- that employee discount WILL be coming in handy). The Royal Bracelet Watch (right) is really beautiful and has the word Juicy written in script on the face. I think this would be my "going out" watch between the two. The Dalton Watch on Croc-Embossed Strap (left) has a cute little charm at the side and would be my everyday watch.

Until my clumsiness goes away and I learn how to keep watches intact, I won't be getting anything that costs more than my $12.99 watch from Payless!

Aren't they fab!

Heaven

Ok so ya'll know of my love for Sephora. I mean it's like walking into heaven...and no I'm not exaggerating. I might not know what heaven's like but if it makes you feel good and all happy inside...yup, that's what Sephora does for me. Just looking at all the colors, makeup, skincare, and accessories make me happy.

Just when I thought it couldn't get better...there's a book. A book full of information, tips, quotes...I love it!

There are tons of products I want/need and so many tips and tricks that I must try out! And I finally learned the purpose and how to use all of those brushes you see gracing the walls of Sephora. With all of the stunning photography, reading this book is just like stepping into the Sephora candy shop! Not to mention Maggie Ritzer looks fabulous on the cover.

Here are some more pics:

I bought it this weekend...and I'm already done.

If you're into the whole beauty thing...GET IT NOW!!!!

Oh no....

Don't tell me that they are really trying to sell these?

Please say it ain't so. I get it that the strappy leather sandals at Dries Van Noten and the braided cage heels at Balenciaga were cult faves but really....this? I want me a pair of gladiators just as much as next fashion lover but I doubt I'd be dropping cash on these (on sale or not! and we all know of my love of all things sale).

Givenchy has out in their two cents and created this Roman style in its baby pink jelly version, complete with a logo detail to keep the soft hue and throwback material from veering too far into elementary school territory.

These are horrible. I loved jellies when I was young but those days passed. I like old school jellies not this crap.

Am I being unreasonable or what? What do you guys think of these.

Punk....

I'm such a punk...it's disgusting

Yesterday while scouring the city looking for the prefect black flats I ran into (ok, saw) Lily Donaldson in Scoop.

And by Lily Donaldson, I mean THE Lily Donaldson...as in the face of MaxMara, muse to Alber Elbaz (my love), and on the cover of i-D alongside Gemma Ward (amongst many other adverts and mag covers)

Yeah...thought you've heard of her.

I walked in and there she was sitting at the front of the store eating her ice cream. At first I couldn't believe my eyes. She looked so...normal. I know that sounds so odd but I always expect models to look so chic all the time (like my homie/ role model Naomi). But know she was wearing an oversized black sweater, grey tee, straight leg jeans, and carried an oversized black grommet handbag with black ballet flats (similar to my Gabrielle flats from Bakers).

And just as I was starting to doubt myself, she got up and started walking towards me. We had eye contact! That would have been my chance to strike up a convo ("Hi I love you! I think you're awesome...by the way do you think you could get your agency to look at my pictures") But no I punked out and kept walking and she stopped and grabbed a really cute safari print tunic.

One thing is that she is really tiny...I thought I was skinny (prefer the word slim but am using skinny for effect) but her leg was the size of my arm...

I'm such an ass...I can see singers and actors like no problem (ok I'd probably freak out if I saw Sarah Jessica Parker and Victoria Beckham) but the minute I see someone in the fashion business I choke (I nearly had a heart attack when I saw Glenda Bailey-editor in chief at Harper's Bazaar- a.k.a. the magazine I want to intern at- come out of her town car on Bryant Park last Fashion Week).

Such a loser =(

“We all come from different parts of the planet and every walk of life, and we come together in this mad ball of energy.” -Lily from Vogue, May 2007

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!

OK if you know me than you know of my love for all things Victoria Beckham ( and Audrey Hepburn) So I just wanted to grant her a major HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Even if she will never see this little post...

Auf Wiedersehen!

"As they say in fashion, one day you're in...next day you're out"

Wow so much is happening over at the Project Runway family.

I'm not one for gossip but, here's the scoop (some of you might have heard this already)...

Apparently Nina Garcia is parting ways with Elle magazine. Rumours started when Joe Zee was appointed as Creative Director. Apparently Roberta Myers (Elle's editor in chief) and Zee are trying to out Garcia.

Neither Garcia, Myers nor a spokeswoman for Elle could be reached for comment. What fueled the rumours even more: Garcia was also absent from a dinner hosted by Elle along with Moschino celebrating the release of Simon Doonan's new book, "Eccentric Glamour: Creating an Insanely More Fashionable You" .

Apparently Garcia has a cameo at Ugly Betty (along with Christian Siriano...my love) and now Myers has suppose lineups over at Fashionista (The Devil Wears Prada + The Apprentice. The new show to be hosted by America's Next Top Model mastermind Tyra Banks to be aired this Spring). And guess what the grand prize is...a gig at Elle. (Shocker!)

Another issue over at Project Runway...it's no longer at Bravo (!) .

Project Runway will say auf Wiedersehen to Bravo and jump to cable rival Lifetime this fall, it was announced Monday. Bravo and NBC Universal, which owns Bravo, were not happy at all. angry they filed a lawsuit! Breach-of-contract ladies and gentlemen...

"Project Runway will strut on over to Lifetime in November for the launch of what the network said will be the show's sixth season".

Now for those of you whose following...season 4 just finished (YAY Christian!) that means season 5 will continue on at Bravo between now and November. But should this lawsuit go any further all bets would be off though...

Heidi and Tim are still on board for moving on over to Lifetime but no word has been said if Micahel Kors and Nina Garcia will still be there.

So this just leaves me with a few thoughts (in true Gossip Girl style):

1. What's going to happen to T's show (Tim Gunn's Guide to Style) which was airing on Bravo?

2. Now that N isn't over at Elle anymore, what's going to happen to the contestants on Project Runway who normally get coverage in Elle? Do they lose the opportunity of a lifetime to be featured in Elle?

3. Where will N work now? Which magazines are willing to dish out the big bucks to get her over at their publication?

4. Will N even be on Project Runway now that it's gone over to Lifetime?

Stay tuned 'cuz your girl is on it!

xoxo

you know you love me,

Fashion's Darling

Oh New York...

The older I get the more in love I fall with NYC. Something amazing happens in the city when the weather gets warm...you see the city at its finest. Yesterday was a gorgeous 72 degree weather day and today was in the high 60s (I could be wrong) but either way the city was in full swing.

At the moment, I am awaiting my friends' arrival so we could go out (eat and drink) then off to see a comedy show. I arrived a good 1 hour earlier in the city and I was amazed at how many people are here. I knew New York was crowded but...damn!

The best part- its not one of those Times Square-ish crowdings where you can't walk without having someone crash into you...where I am (Murray Hill) there are loads of restaurants/bars filled with people eating outside.

The {other} best partis the style gazing that I do whilst standing outside Duane Reade waiting for my friends. Seeing all these fabulously chic women tring to hail a cab is wonderful. PS: they make it look so easy catching a cab...I tried that once and it was just awful! None stopped! Getting played by cabbies and trying to look cute doesn't mix.

Note to self...styles that are "in" for spring/summer in NYC:
--Ethnic print dresses. Long ones. Short ones. Doesn't matter as long as you pair them with some great gladiator sandals you're good to go.

--Bright colours (my fave)! Popular ones I've seen tonight are orange and yellow. Now I know to stay away from those (I hate going somewhere and it looks like you match with everyone there). --The oversized clutch (I've posted on this before)

Now most of you are saying "Duh...did you not watch/ stalk style.com?" But so often designers will do all these fantastic shows but isn't quite feasable with city life. But this time the SS 08 Collections and actual spring in NY coincide (LOVEEE IT).

I couldn't help myself. I've already told you guys that I'm in front of Duane Reade but somehow I managed to "wait" for my friends at Duane Reade. All I ended up doing was buying 2 lipsticks and 1 gloss.

The first is Wet n Wild's Silk Finish lipstick in 511B- Mouveau Pink.
This looks like something out of the Fafi collection. Super bright pink that I didn't think I'd get away with...but I can, did, and look fab!

Next are two from N.Y.C.
1. Liquid Lip Shine in Cherrywood.

This mauve color looks great for everyday wear. This gloss is not sticky (I hate it when I turn around and strands of hair get stuck on my lips).

2. Ultra Last Lip Wear in Berry Rich
I bought the Berry Rich because I wanted to use it as a base for my gloss above (Liquid Lip Shine in Cherrywood). I'm glad I bought both because this lipstick is relly beautiful when worn underneath or above gloss. It's a beautiful shade of berry (even has a hint of berry fragrance).
Overall it was a wonderful purchase ($4.96 was the total!).

Sick of it...

I think I'm sick...I don't have any physical symptoms though.

I tried to go shoe shopping yesterday and I hated everything. I tried on a couple of shades but to no avail...me! unable to find sunglasses!? hell even Sephora didn't give me that thrill...

Something's wrong. Really wrong. Everything seems upside down...it's like I'm present but not really here (I don't know if that makes sense).

Even the one thing I counted on the most to make me happy (the reason why I pretty much stayed at my school) seems to be...awkward.

I don't know...one can only *hope* that things will get better. Leading me into my next product review (cheesy, I know):

Philosophy's Hope in a Jar

This is one powerful moisturizer. I bought it because I've heard so many reviews and after feeling down I was kinda hoping that Hope in a jar would make things better.

Heck it did for my complexion. My normally oily skin calmed down and had a nice glow (not that greasey glow).

****The quote on the jar seems so appropo for my life*******

odd...

It happens at the weirdest times...

Yesterday, I left my house looking like crap. I had to go to the orthodontist (don't you just love braces...) so I had no makeup (he tends to smear my lip gloss and I feel bad when I see traces of my foundation/pressed powder on his crisp white shirt) and not to mention...your girl was lookin' kinda bummy.

I mean I looked a little bit bad (ok a lot bad)...I didn't feel like looking good (really odd).

But anywhoo...I was on my way to Sephora (not having any makeup on was starting to make me panic) when I saw this guy who tried to stop me and talk to me. Being that I've walked the streets of New York before, I figured he was just trying to sell me something (fake perfume...his upcoming CD...) and I ignored him. I was on my way to Victoria's Secret when I saw him again (mind you Sephora was at Times Square and VS was at Herald Square). I ignored him...again. I finally caved in when I saw him when I was leaving Macy's. It was hard not to...I figured if the universe wants me to buy something, hell why not!?!

Only he wasn't trying to sell me anything...nothing!

He simply wanted to talk to me and "get to know me"...

really? Me?

So I caved in...exchanged numbers and went our separate ways...

I know nothing's going to come out of this (how long do guys usually take to call anyways?) but I just find it odd that on a day when I looked like royal crap, THAT'S when they want to come to talk to me.

************************************************************************************

What I had originally wanted to talk about was Satin Finish 3/4" Ultra-Slim Ceramic Straightener.

This flat iron has ceramic coated plates that glides across hair so easily. My hair was left silky smooth, shiny, and my bangs have never looked so smooth and flat. Few more random facts:

-Eliminates damaging hot spots by distributing heat evenly
-60-second instant heat-up
-Professional contoured handle design is ergonomically curved for easy handling and maneuverability
-Uniform heat recovery system restores the plate temperature to the optimum level for consistent results every time you straighten
-Flocked exterior surface guides hair to flip ends
-25 variable heat settings for every type of hair

I suggest those with thin hair get this because it has 25 different settings...each telling you which is ideal for what type of hair (rather than on and off like other flat irons)...setting 1 to 5 is ideal for those like me who have thin hair.

I Never Knew

So I must really be out of the loop because as I was reading various beauty articles- blogs, magazines, etc.- I learn that you have to throw out your mascara every 2-3 months (the longest I've heard was 5 months from Glamour magazine). Now I know you have to throw them out (duh) but I didn't know it was so often.
I'm so guilty of keeping mascara for longer. I've had my Too Faced Lash Injection for a good six months. But apparently bacteria breeds in them and it gets worse after 2-3 months (ew ew ew ew ew). After reading this I literally threw out all of my mascaras (ok except for my Too Faced...I don't use it but I just keep...don't know why).
This prompted me to go on a search for a new type of mascara. I ended up getting the CoverGirl Super Thick Lash Mascara.

The Claim:
For big, bold, thick lashes, Super Thick Lash is the one. Its Lash Builder brush separates, defines, and reaches for those little lashes so you get thick, full lashes-so easy, so beautiful!

My review:
ehh I've seen better.

Yes it does deliver super dark lashes but thick? It's so so. It works but it's not something that I'd recommend as superb. It's good. Not Oh my God! but more like hmm...ok.

My next *hopeful* purchase:

Guerlain Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara

It has two separate brushes. The first brush lengthens, curves and separates while the second, mini brush is designed for the inner and outer corners grabbing the smaller eyelashes and make them up easily without smudges or mistakes.

Now that's superb!

Oversized Clutches

As spring and evtually summer (hopefully) rolls near, I've noticed that I really don't own any small bags. Normally I wouldn't care but normally during the spring and especially the summer I like to go out at night with my girls. I definitely don't want to go with my oversized bags in hand (oversized shades defintely...bag, no).

Can you imagine dancing with a cutie while trying to carry a rather large bag...

So I'm on the hunt for some really cute oversized clutches.

I honestly can't have anything small...hehe

Forever 21:
I love this clutch from Forever 21. It's like $25 and honestly I wouldn't mind carrying this around when I'm out with the ladies. I love the croc print and gold buckle detail.

Urban Outfitters $39.99

Ok so this is super similar to the black croc clutch above so it's a no brainer that I'd like this one. But it's good to have different colors (even if its the same thing...at least that's what I hink).

Santorini by Alexis Hudson $275

St. Tropez by Alexis Hudson $275

These are more on the expensive end but I love Alexis Hudson handbags. The clutches are remarkable. The detailing on the clutches are fabulous and I really think it's worth all the money.

Other clutches that I love but are out of my college budget:

Tory Burch $250

Marc by Marc Jacobs $328.00

BCBG $278.00

These would probably be good for me to go out at night but I definitely wouldn't be able to hold this around during the day. I don't think it's practical...I'd have to set it down every other minute.

I still want one though...hehe

Bothered by the News

So I'm sitting (well laying) here watching the 11 o'clock news on channel 7 and I find myself bothered.

Why you ask?

Because the weatherman is horrible!! And I mean BAD! He's using all these big meteorologist words that I have no clue what they mean! What ever happened to just saying its gonna rain? Why be so technical. And he looks like plastic! He looks so fake...too much time at the tanning salon my guy.

Thank God he's just filling in for the regular guy.

And this talk of rain is making me really want to buy those Marc Jacobs Rubber Rain boots (at $28, why the hell not?!)

Also bothering me in the evening news: our favorite supermodel (and my homegirl) got arrested, AGAIN!

YUP! Naomi Campbell got arrested for spitting in a cop's face. I must admit...she's pretty ballsy- she's got major cajones.

I still love her.

Spring Trend: Dresses

This spring and summer season, I am going to release my inner girl. I know that sounds odd but I have the same style every single summer...and I mean E V E R Y spring/ summer. I always end up in jeans and a graphic tee.

But as I grow up, I want my clothes to follow suit.
Now I'm not no 25 year old nor am I 30 but I would like to "dress up" more. I never buy skirts or dresses because a) the tomboy that existed in me all throughout junior high and high school doesn't want to leave, and b) I always think that I have to be going somewhere to wear them. But a friend recently made a valid point: I don't go out. She is in the same predicament except she dresses up...all the time. When I ask her why, she simply replies "why not? it's my clothes"
Valid point.

And I guess I could dear old, Aggy's advice. She once said that her and her friends would dress up just to go to the movies.

So why not? I intend on wearing dreses.

Easier said than done. I'm trying to find a style that would suit me. I'm still very much awkward at this thing known as "walking"...I trip over everything and if I fall while in a dress...WOOOOO there goes my ass in front of everyone! (That's my biggest fear)

Current styles I'm thinking about:

www.gap.com

This one is so easy and relaxed. So simple yet when paired with some really cute shoes goes great with the whole Out of Africa theme magazines are going crazy about (I must confess I love that whole safari look).

www. bananarepublic.com
This one just reminds me of Spring. Yellow is a really nice color on me since I'm dark skin (according to my mother it "pops"). This does remind me of Charlotte from Sex and the City though (or it could just be the fact that the movie is coming out in ONE MONTH!).

If I am going for the whole safari look I might as well invest in these:

Both are from Bakers and I love them!

As for the yellow dress...I don't know I just feel like wearing all sorts of random colors with them just to add some flavor, like these:

Or maybe these just because I'm not that bold and wearing all those colors is sometime not the best idea:

These are gorgeous!!!!

What are your spring must haves?

Skin care

Ok so I have been battling with my pimples since about junior year of high school. I've had great skin all my life than one year pimples just started coming out of nowhere. Seriously...it was a mass attack on my face!

So over the past few years I've dedicated my time to finding the perfect skincare regimen.

And I did!

I didn't think it was the greatest until recent events (or not so recent anymore). This past February for some reason there was this fixation on my skin, but in a good way. It all started when I went to work and a co worker commented and said "wow, you have good skin". I thought nothing of it (because I had on makeup). Than when I had went to the Lancôme event , the makeup artist told me I should be a model because I'm tall, skinny, and my skin was "remarkable" (I'll never forget that word...my skin: remarkable **sigh**). The best part- i HAD NO MAKEUP ON!

It got me thinking...why were people noticing my skin? Hell, I was even bold enough to go out with my makeup on for a few days...ME!? NO MAKEUP!

What's the secret to my radiant skin?

Well I start of with Garnier Nutritioniste Nuti-Pure Detoxifying Cream Cleanser, Oil-Free. This is just about the best cleanser I could have ever used. I have oily skin, like major oily skin. This cleanser is oil free which is a MUST for people like me and is non drying. After I wash my face i don't get that tight feeling most cleansers leave off.

Next I go to Clean & Clear Oil-Free Dual Action Moisturizer . Now someone told me to not use an oil free moisturizer AND an oil free cleanser because that will strip my skin of it's essential oils and make my skin super dry. Well WRONG-O! This goes on smoothly and doesn't leave my face too dry. I;m going to admit, it does feel a bit tight after the cleanser/moisturizer combo but when I put on my sunscreen after this it balances out...to me anyways. Also sometimes I don't even buy the Clean & Clear, I get the Target version which is not only cheaper but has the same effect. As a matter of fact, I'm using the target version right now. Drugstore brands, I've come to learn, have the same effect if not better sometimes.
How did I know that this was the perfect combination for my skin? Well last month (God can you believe it's April already?) both of them finished at the same time...BOTH! I thought nothing of it an figured since my skin was so wonderful I could use whatever on my face and achieve the same results. Boy was I wrong. Those pimples came back and they brought their friends. it was one big party going on on my face. No matter what I used, they refused to go away. It wasn't up until I realized that these two products worked well together on my skin. Needless to say after this horrific experience I went (more like ran) to my nearest Target and stocked up.

And now?

yeah, the skin is back to normal =)

Product Review: Garnier Skin Renew Daily Anti Fatigue Eye Cream

Heyy ya'll!!
ok so I've been using this for about three month on and off. I say on and off because I would use it for about a month and then I wouldn't see any results so I quit. But I am no quitter so I go back to using it with hopes of results. I don't kow if it's me but I simply don't know what's wrong with this product.
It says anti fatigue and there are mornings where I wake up looking like hell. I slab this on hoping that I'd look awake (even if slightly) but no. I get more results with eyeliner and mascara.
Honestly...
I use it over and under my moisturizer but have yet to see any results.
I don't know...maybe a couple more uses and I'll get the results I need.

It's been awhile...

I know I know. I said Monday and its now Tuesday and I'm now posting but honestly...I have no internet access. Now I'm convinced that I have to save up and buy a laptop [unless the friendly people over at Apple feel my pain and agony and wants to send over the MacBook over by my way...=)...]

Anywhoo...this post will be short because I am posting from the  (Sidekick icon, cool huh?).

Just letting ya'll know that I haven't forgotten about you and that there's loads (and I mean LOADS) of stuff I can't wait to post about.

For now, if anyone is or will be in the NYC area (or is willing to drive up here..hehe):
Tomorrow Peter Som, designer and creative director over at Bill Blass, will be at Saks Fifth Avenue on the 3rd floor. He will be introducing the seasons new collection from 11am to 1pm I believe. I will be in attendance (hopeflly) and should I make it I plan to bring a full report!
