Revlon's Artificial Nails

Revlon Naturally Chic Artificial Nail

When I think of artificial nails, it automatically brings me back to when I was about 10 years old and my friends use to glue on these horribly fake ($1) nails. By the end of the hour, nails would be flying off and we walked around with the glue in our pockets (god forbid our nails broke around the boys!)

But thank goodness times have changed and brands create these faux ongles with quality and style. Any thoughts of my younger days were put to bed after I tried Revlon's artificial nails.

Revlon's artificial nails make the perfect accessory for jazzing up your routine every once in a while. The line includes already-polished, easy-to-glue on sets of nails that are fuss free and super easy to apply.

I tested out Revlon's Runway Collection (the set I used was Starlet- a pretty take on a French manicure with criss-cross design on the tips).

In the kit (L-R): Nails, nail glue, nail file/ buffer, cuticle stick

This seriously took me about 10-15 minutes to apply (as I watched Keeping Up With the Kardashians, naturally). I do, however, suggest that you take time out to seriously do it because if you are not careful, you can get tiny little air bubbles in between the artificial nail and your nail (as was the case with five of my nails). The air bubbles are not attractive at all so definitely set aside at least 20 minutes, don't rush and follow the directions. Other than my inability to watch TV and do my nails, I was thoroughly satisfied with these nails.

Since I was just planning on testing out the nails, I though removal would have been as easy as pulling the nails off (which actually the directions say NOT TO DO!) but it wasn't. That glue was on for sure! I was super impressed! They stayed on no matter how much texting I did that night and even lasted while I blogged. I woke up the next day and to my surprise, there they were.

They didn't budge!

This is really amazing. The only time a nail popped off was while I was hand washing some clothes (am I seriously the only person who still hand washes clothes??) but I kind of expected that as my hands were completely submerged in soapy water for a prolonged amount of time. Generally, however, you would need to soak your nails in acetone nail polish remover to remove the nails.

I love these and while I may not wear them everyday (it takes some getting used to in order to text!) I would definitely trust in wearing these for a night out (or a week when I don't want to do my nails!). They look real and unless someone is studying the anatomy of your finger, no one but you will know this was a do it yourself job.

Revlon's artificial nails also includes these other sets:
**Color Allure (available in six shades including a very glamorous red)
**Naturally Chic (Sophie & Audrey)
**Runway Collection (Stella, Sequins, Studio, Crocodile & Starlet)

How to Survive in High Heels

One of my biggest fears with high heels is the aftermath. We all looovve when we first put on our heels. Our excitement is ready to burst as we slide on our 3/4/5 inch heels...but by the end of the day feet are calling- no, begging- to be freed, released from the torture we put it through. And with the warmer weather slowly creeping into NYC, part of me gets excited for the many nights I know I'll hit the NYC night scene with my girls in my strappy stilettos.

I always imagine that after hitting the city, my feet will happily slide out of my stilettos sans the throbbing pain. Dare to dream?

Well, if you're like me, dream no more.

LEGWORK: The Secret to Sexy High Heel Walking is probably something that should be mandatory for all women. Period. Legwork is a sculpting workout that was designed to relieve the stress on dancer's feet.

The brainchild of footwear designers Victor Chu and Cece Chin (formerly of Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein) and choreographer Kylin Brady (of Rockettes fame), LEGWORK workouts are inspired by the advanced high-heel aerobics and training routines of premier Broadway dancers, giving chiseled gams and improving gait and posture.

This is not a workout in high heels (as a matter of fact, working out in heels is not recommended and increases risk of injury). No, no...instead LEGWORK is designed to strengthen legs before regular high heel wearing. Legwork promises to increase "sexiness, confidence and grace in heels" and improve "posture, pose and poise."

I'm sold. This seriously sounds amazing.

Join LEGWORK for their next high heel fitness & walking workshop class is coming up this Friday...

And before we part ways...here's a quick relief tip:

Stiletto Stretch 101: Calf & Achilles Relief
Calves tight and achy? Waking up with calf cramps? This quick stretch takes seconds and will give instant relief and muscle balance. In bare feet, place the ball of the foot against a wall and leave your heel in contact with the floor while leaning forward into the wall. Hold the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds then repeat with the other leg. Stretch before, during and after wearing heels. And as needed. This will stretch and relieve the calf muscles, Achilles tendons and prevents painful muscle cramping.

Behold!! The New and Improved Iman Cosmetics Website

Hey lovelies!!

You know I'm all about sharing the love so when I found out that the website for Iman Cosmetics has been revamped, I just HAD to let you chicas know!!

The revamped website has all the scoop on the the latest and newest products.

The "How To" section is amazing since they give you face charts and step by step info on how to recreate a look that Iman, herself, is rocking as well as firsthand demonstrations on how to create your look from day to night.

My favorite part of the website would definitely have to be the "Meet Your Match". As women of color, we probably have the toughest time ever, not only finding foundation, but finding it in our correct shade. It's actually quite frustrating at times because you're one shade in MAC, another for L'Oreal, etc. Meet Your Match let's you find out which shade you would be in Iman Cosmetics no matter what brand you normally wear- it does all the guess work for you!

So no matter if you swear by MAC, L'Oreal, Fashion Fair, Black Opal or Revlon finding your shade is made simple online. And it's pretty darn accurate! In MAC terms, I'm an NW 45 and with all of my Iman Cosmetics pressed powders I'm an Earth 3- as it states online.

You ladies definitely need to check out the website!

I mean, like, now..haha..imancosmetics.com.

Bobbi Brown Summer 2009: Nautical Collection

“I love sheer colors for summer- they’re wearable, easy and look good on everyone.”- Bobbi Brown

May is going to be a tough month for me. With MAC's Style Warrior collection and Bobbi Brown's Nautical Collection...I'm sure going to be broke. But very very happy.

Hopefully, I'd have successfully accomplished Project 10 Pan.

Bobbi Brown's Nautical Collection is inspired by easy, natural summer beauty and features two new products that would look quite lovely in my makeup collection.

These new products are Sheer Color Lip Gloss and Sheer Color Cheek Tint.

The Sheer Color Cheek Tint ($22) is available in six shades:
  • Sheer Raspberry
  • Sheer Mauve
  • Sheer Lilac
  • Sheer Coral
  • Sheer Pink
  • Sheer Blackberry
Sheer Color Cheek Tint gives cheeks a natural looking color while at the same time delivering a sheer tint. The translucent, lightweight formula glides on smooth and blends evenly onto skin and comes in a swivel stick for convenient and easy application.

New to the lip gloss family is Sheer Color Lip Gloss ($20). I'm all over this product as lip gloss is my thing!!

This gloss has a see-through finish that makes it easy for any woman to wear. It comes in four shades and is a limited edition item for summer (limited edition meaning it's going to FLY off the counters).
The shade are:
  • Marina Pink
  • Cabana Coral
  • Sailor
  • Popsicle
Both the Sheer Color Lip Gloss and Sheer Color Cheek Tint will be available in May at Bobbi Brown counters and bobbibrown.com.

Kimmie K has gone blonde

So my biggest guilty pleasure is definitely reality TV shows. I'm insanely obsessed. One of my fave shows, therefore my fave person, is Keeping Up With The Kardashians, with Kim Kardashian (duh).

I'm so obsessed that I follow Kim on Twitter and I'm glad I did because she debuted her new 'do.

Kim traded in her gorgeously lush dark mane for a caramel brown color. People all over Twitter are calling it blonde but I def don't think so.

I definitely do think she crazy for doing this lol. I loved her dark hair, and to me it was sort of her "thing". Nonetheless she rocks it well (I sound like a total groupie).

Well...what do we think? Love it? Hate it? Don't care?

Diaper Bags by Layla Grayce

Ok so not too long ago, like about three months ago, a good friend of mine announced to me that she was pregnant. Since she was happy, I was happy for her. The simple fact that she wants to be a mommy so bad and is stepping up to the challenge of mommyhood (mommyhood..HA!) made me proud of her.

We (my friend and I) are in the process of shopping and getting ready for the baby so when this website landed in my inbox, I couldn't be happier. Layla Grace was created by two friends, Wendy Rossiter Estes and Tiffany Pyne Harris, and is a way for them to share their talents and finds from all of their travels and experience in designing homes for clients.

Layla Grace carries a series of diaper bags that I think my friend would go CRAZY over! One of them is the Fleurville Diaper Bag. Designed with practical functionality and durable construction, the Fleurville collection of diaper bags feature Green-LAM™ laminated fabrics that are environmentally conscious.

Major cool points for the environment!

Another type of bag would be Bumble Bags. I look at these bags and I think even I could use them! they do NOT look like a diaper bag (maybe on the inside).
ain't it cute??

And finally, there are the OiOi Diaper Bags .
Made from and easy to clean water resistant fabric, the OiOi Carry All Diaper Bag features two main inner compartments, two front pockets and a deep back pocket with magnetic snap closure. The bag also includes polished nickel hardware, a large padded micro-fiber change mat, bottle holder, a pvc wipes bag, double handled straps, protective metal feet on base.

Later on as the baby comes closer to popping out, I think I'll get my friend one of the OiOi Diaper Bags. They're super cute.

Just because a woman's pregnant doesn't mean they can't walk around in style. Layla Grayce echoes this mantra of mine. If you or someone you know is expecting, I highy recommend checkiing out this website!

A little bit of shameless self promotion...

Hey lovelies!!!

This is more of an update post/ shameless self promotion...haha

So by now we all know of my rule to not spend any money on makeup for a month. After doing some long hard thinking (and too many nights of watching YouTube), I've decided to stop my little project.

But before you call me a quitter, hear me out!

I'm doing really well in the sense that I haven't purchased any form of makeup- drugstore or MAC. Normally when I step into a Duane Reade, I make a beeline towards the beauty aisle and then head towards wherever I was originally supposed to go. I would end up buying something (mostly lipgloss) even if I don't need it. Now, however, I think twice (more like debate about it for five minutes).

Now I think to myself, "do I really even want this?" or "do I have something at home like this or better?"

After this realization, the urge to spend decreases.

Now I'm not saying I'm cured from shopping. By no means! It some major will power not to run to MAC yesterday and get the beauty powder blush from the Rose Romance collection. Some major will power (the beauty powder has a rose etched in it!! how cute!!!).

So instead of a No Spend Month (which isn't even correct grammar anyway), I'm going to follow in the footsteps of YouTube beauty guru Laura from lollipop26 and participate in Project 10 Pan.

Project 10 Pan is basically a means to not only save money on makeup but actually use the makeup you currently own. It's quite simple, actually. It means that I am not able to purchase any cosmetics until I have used up or hit the pan on at least 10 items in my current collection.

It can be a foundation, lipstick, lipgloss...ANYTHING! All I have to do is use the product up COMPLETELY. Once I have used up 10 I can then purchase something.

Genius actually.

I know me. The minute my month of non spending is over, I'll run to the nearest location that sells makeup and binge. I'll splurge like no tomorrow and end up with even MORE makeup. I'm like a junkie (bad bad bad example but...) and once a junkie crashes...it's over.

So this little project will be fun and I'll actually get to use what I currently own. I've already found some amazing eyeshadows I've forgotten about and have discovered that I own an insane amount of lip products.

111 to be exact.
(some of my stash)

Yes you read correctly. Between all the lipglosses, lipsticks and lip pencils (okay...only one lip pencil) I own 111 lip products. Out of that 110, seventy-five (75) are lipglosses and thirty five (35) are lipsticks. And my one lip pencil. smh.

Now onto the shameless self promotion...

I am selling some of my unused beauty products. No, not as a means to cheat on Project 10 Pan, but because I know that in all honesty, I will never ever use them. Currently up for sale is Nexxus Gorgeous Curls foam styler (I don't have curly hair so I don't know WHY I even purchased it) and MAC Lipglass in "Oh Baby" (I own three...yes THREE of this shade and haven't finished my first tube...) So if you're interested in bidding, check out my eBay listings over here. I also plan on adding several more beauty items later on this week into early next week (Aveda Dry Remedy Conditioner) as well non beauty related (hello purse I bought but never used because it wasn't "big enough").If you're interested in these items but don't want to wast time bidding and want to make an offer, email me ([email protected]).

Thanks ladies! Anyone else interested in Project 10 Pan?? Think I'm crazy?? Think I won't make it?? Lemme know in the comments!

All photos courtesy of Google except the picture of my lipsglosses. That is mine.

Elizabeth Arden Summer 2009 Collection

Elizabeth Arden's newest collection, Bronze Blush, is simply put: one of their most gorgeous collections released.

Ever.

The colors are beautiful and the glosses...OMG...TO DIE FOR!

Tropicoral (top) Berrylicious (bottom)

The High Shine Lip Glosses deliver just that- high shine. It's not in that obnoxious, eighth grade way neither (am I the only one who rocked MAJOR glossy lips in the eight grade thinkin' I was the flyest chick in English class??). The colors I have above are Tropicoral (limited edition) and Berrylicious (one of the new four shades).

Berrylicious is a gorgeous berry (duh) shade. It's not overly shiny and the texture is non sticky. It looks fabulous alone but when I layered it over my berry colored lipsticks it really does add that extra POP! Personally, I LOVE this color. It has become a staple in my makeup bag. I HIGHLY recommend getting this color.

Tropicoral, at first sight, scared the bejesus out of me. I'm not going to lie. It's a super bright color in the tube and I thought it wouldn't look good against my dark skin. But all worries were laid to rest upon first application. It's sheer enough coral to wear alone. The color doesn't look freakish at all. This is definitely a brown girl friendly lip gloss. It also has tiny shimmer in the gloss-not chunky clunks of glitter- that imparts a subtle sparkle.

The Collection includes::

Pure Finish Mineral Bronzing Powder ($32.00)
* Light
* Medium

Pure Finish Mineral Cheek Color ($24.00)
* Rosy Glow

Sunlit Bronze Beauty Kit ($35.00)
* Blush: Tearose
* Eyeshadow: Beach Nut, Coral Sands, Lagoon, Sand Dollar
* Highlighter: Sunlit Rays

Color Intrigue Gel Eyeliner ($23.00)
* Ocean Teal

High Shine Lip Gloss ($17.00)
* Berrylicious (a must have according to me..HA!)
* Maple
* Pink Pout
* Rosegold
* Tropicoral (Limited edition)

Color Intrigue Effects Lipstick ($19.50)
* Cherry Pearl
* Cocoa Bronze
* Guava Pearl (Limited)

Overall this collection looks pretty fab. I was sold with the glosses. I'm itching to get my hands on Color Intrigue Effects lipstick in Cherry Pearl. Cherry Pearl is a bright pearly blue toned pink. You ladies know I love a pink lipstick.

This collection is available now online.

US Vogue May 2009: "The Great Pretender"

I think this is quite possibly one of the greatest shoots.

Natalia Vodianova's versatility is beyond amazing.

Editorial: The Great Pretender
Magazine: Vogue US
Issue: May 2009
Model: Natalia Vodianova
Photographer: Steven Meisel

photos from foto_decadent

I'd like to thank the Academy...

...ok not quite the Academy, more like the lovely Felicia of ThisThatBeauty.

I was given the wickedly fabulous Sexy Blogger Award (yowza!).

Can I, the girl who lives in Victoria's Secret PINK hoodies, flats and jeans, live up to the Sexy Blogger Award??

The rules are quite simple as a matter of fact. All that needs to be done is:
List five things that are sexy about yourself and then bestow this prestigious honor upon five of your beauty blogging sisters

eek! I consider myself to be the most UNSEXIEST person alive. I can name five totally unsexy things about myself (that's rather sad actually)...especially the face I make whilst trying to put on my mascara every morning.

Daunting task...but somebody's gotta do it (HA!)

Anywhoo...let's get this party started...

  • My lips: No amount of lip filler, injection or any other disgusting method needed for me. My puckers are full and beautiful...no wonder lipgloss shopping is so fun!
  • My ambition: this isn't a physical feature but ambition in a person (anyone but especially dudes...yumm) is one of the sexiest attributes one can have. I'm probably one of the most ambitious young people I know (toot! toot!) Nothing's sexier than a girl with goals and the guts to pursue them
  • My legs: there's a love/hate relationship going on with my gams at times. But most of the time, especially in the summer and warmer weather, I LOVE my legs. I stand at 5'10" (I used to lie and say 5'9"...I always wanted to be short!) and I have a lot of leg situation going on. It's rather beautiful during the summer when I wear my minis and shorts and my freshly shaved legs glisten in the summer sun (covered in SPF of course). I also have my these two scars on my left leg. I call them my war marks- trying to learn how to ride a bike in Haiti's rocky terrain and an injury from playing football with the boys in the 5th grade.
  • My intelligence: again not a physical trait but I pride myself on my smarts (again, toot toot). But I have managed to maintain a 3.7GPA all throughout college (all while commuting 2 hours back and forth and working part time. I'm proud of my many achievements, academically and otherwise (Dean's List every semester and Who's Who award).
  • Lastly my love of jeans: so weird right! I own a trillion pairs, all in different cuts. Having worked as a sales associate in the denim industry, I have come to learn about body fit and the effect the right pair of jeans has on a woman. Instant sex and sass appeal!
I would like to thank Felicia (hey girl!) and now I'm tagging:

IMAN Global Chic

How many nights have you stayed up late tuned into HSN??

Don't lie neither! You know that you've tuned in, cell phone in hand and credit card in the other, ready to dial up and order at any given moment.

Well, make sure you're doing that on April 24th and 25th, when Iman (as in my idol Iman) debuts her newest collection for her Global Chic line.
(Stone Cuff, $$79.95)

Iman was spotted in SoHo sporting one of her new bags and i must say my dear old VISA is going to take a beating. The bags will be available on HSN and HSN.com on this Friday and Saturday.

(Iman shopping)

The new pieces are perfect for spring and summer as they go hand in hand with bright, bold colors that is so on trend for Spring 2009. It will make a statement with whatever you wear albeit jeans and a tee or a flirty dress with sandals.

(Beaded Tote, $94.95)

Iman's Global Chic line started in December of 2007. Inspired by her travels "from the plains of Africa to the Hollywood Hills" Iman creates chic pieces for her HSN-exclusive collection.

I personally fell in love last year with the IMAN Global Chic City Tote Signature Bag (which is actually on clearance on hsn.com). The bag is so roomy and big (the way I like 'em!) It's actually quite PERFECT for me but I didn't get it at the time because, well, my college student budget couldn't afford it. I did, however, get the black and gold Signature Circle Pendant necklace.

I am in a dilemma because I've decided NOT to spend money until May, so I shall try to resist the siren call of her easy pieces and roomy totes. Once the 24th arrives, however, I'm making NO promises.

My will power to all things beautiful and affordable weakens upon sight.

Make sure you tune in with me this Friday , April 24th and Saturday, April 25th!

Too Face Summer 2009 Collection

When it comes to Too Faced cosmetics, I'm like a kid in a candy store. It's really bad. I'm in love with this line...L-O-V-E!

It all started with the Lash Injection mascara. I was first getting into mascara (I learned makeup through my mom and she felt no need for mascara...primarily because her lashes are basically non existent). I bought a drugstore brand first (Maybelline Great Lash, naturally) and then wandered into Sephora like a lost soul. I found Too Faced and was instantly enamored due to the excessive amounts of pink in the display.

Pink=happiness.

Anywhoo, I purchased Lash Injection, fell in love and swore off any and all other mascaras. This lasted until a couple of months ago- when my job tanked and paying $20for mascara just wasn't feasible. Or rational. Completely unfair.

So now whenever a new collection comes out, I'm all over it. A couple of months ago, I bought my first ever bronzer (Too Faced Chocolate Soleil)only because it was so beautiful and didn't contain the obnoxious glitter that most bronzers have nowadays. I used to think that as a brown skinned girl bronzers weren't for me but Chocolate Soleil changed my mind. The effect is matte and just plain beautiful.

So for Summer 2009, Too Faced brings me (...I mean us...) more beautiful bronzers and colors.

    Lip Bronzer ($17.00)
  • Pink Leopard: Sparkling tan & popsicle pink
  • Snow Bunny: Icy pearl & fawn
  • Sun Bunny: Golden bronze & sea shell beige

    Pure Bronze ($28.50)
  • Pure Bronze: Golden bronze

    Brightening Blushes ($19.50)
  • Mocha Mi Amore: Mocha brown
  • Papa Don’t Peach: Soft peach
  • Pinch My Petals: Pale pink

    Mermaid’s Treasure Beauty Collection ($32.50) (Sephora Exclusive)
  • Sun Bunny Bronzer
  • Sun Bunny Lip Bronzer
  • Mini Lash Injection (Black)
  • Flatbuki Brush

Steal of the Week!

Hey gals!

Remember when I told you the loveliness that is the Sephora Beauty Insider card?? Well, here's more reason to squeal with joy...

You can click here to print out a coupon for 15% off your entire purchase at Sephora.

That's right...15% off!

It may not seem like a lot but in all honesty, who doesn't like paying less for something even when it is only about $3-5 less.

The coupon is good up until the 21st of April, so you have plenty of time to write down your list of goodies and splurge, splurge, splurge! Don't blame the recession neither, how are we to get out of the recession if we don't invest in our economy?? Help the economy by investing in some amazing blushes, glossy lips and daring eyeshadows!

If you don't like the lines, the crowds, the lady who took the LAST tube of mascara while standing in front of you (a bit of a personal story haha), it's okay, the 15% off is good online as well. Just enter the code BD2T9CB5.

This is a rather sucky time for me to have enacted my No Spend Month rule =( I'm thinking of ignoring it, just this once. I know! Shame on me! But you don't know when the next discount offer at Sephora will be. I may have to wait 'till Christmas! I just want one thing...

I've been eyeing the NARS eyeshadow duos ever so intently. (eyeing...eyeshadow...get it?) I'm dying for the color Caravaggio (azalea pink/ iridescent violet) and Jolie Poupee (matte lavender/ violet shimmer).

But I'll resist. Or try.

Let me know if you scoop us something sweet! I am living vicariously through you guys!
