Much like my wardrobe, each Autumn I start craving new beauty products. I’m not sure what it is but I always yearn for something new, better, and different. This season, I might have taken it a bit further than past by CHOPPING off my long locks for a shorter, simpler ‘do but that DOESN’T mean I’ll be cutting my beauty wishlist in half. No, ma’am. Here are a few items on said list:

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Oil In Cream ($45): true enough, I received a sample in the mail back when my hair was longer. Nice smell, great amount of consistency, and gives you anti-frizz action you deserve.
Dolce & Gabbana The Makeup Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation ($59): I love foundation, oh so much. Even when my skin is in its most
glorious state, I use foundation because I love the overall look and evenness. One foundation on my “OMG-I-NEED-TO-TRY” list is the Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation. Said to provide you with a radiantly flawless and dewy look I’m more interested in the fact that they ACTUALLY HAVE shades for brown skin. You go, Glen Coco.
Guerlain Écrin 4 Couleurs Eye Shadow in 500 Les Ombres Turandot ($59): sweet, sweet Guerlain. Can you do no wrong? This quartet consists of a slight monochrome palette that makes for the most refined makeup looks. I’ve beaver tried Gerlain eyeshadows but these subtle yet beautiful shades just might send me over the edge. Plus, the elegant golden case travels in a black suede pouch with red topstitching. Oh you fancy, huh?
Speaking about Fancy, Guerlain (again) has their Liu Eye & Lip Calligraphy Palette ($79). Part of their Holiday 2012 collection, this is surely to become a beauty lover collector’s item. Drawing inspiration from the art of calligraphy and Asian beauty rituals, this palette has two dramatic shades for the lips combined with three iridescent eyeshadows and a matte black eyeliner. It’s all you need in one handy (albeit beautiful) item.

although we’re still deep into summer, I can’t help but be enamored with all of the Fall merchandise hitting the stores. I try to stay away from overall color palettes and schemes because I’m non-committal. I can’t ever make up my mind and to dedicate myself to one color scheme is a bit scary. THAT SAID, I can’t help but navigate towards rich hues, namely blues and purples. For now I’ll focus on blue, mmkay?
Athe Zig Zag Coat by DV by Dolce Vita ($209): I’ve yet to find a perfect fall to winter coat and this might be it. Full length sleeves, oversized collar, belted waistline — this is definitely the polished look I’m looking for.
Isabel Marant Bekett leather and suede sneakers ($665): let’s face it, these are everywhere. I never thought I’d want to wear a wedge sneakerbut I hear these are super comfortable (and they’re okay to wear to work and events without feeling sloppy).
DL1961 Bag Essentials Emma Bali ($178): part of the Snob Essentials collaboration betweenDL1961 Premium Denim and BagSnob, these dip-dyed coated skinny jeans are perfect with kicks and a regular tee or dressed up with a pair of sexy pumps.
Kinder Paper Leather Jacket by Joie ($898): super expensive, yes, but how gorgeous is this cropped leather jacket?
Enameled elephant bracelet by J. Crew ($128): take an animal, slap on jewels, and I have to have it. Done.
Madewell soft silk boyshirt ($80): we know about the classic white button down but a bright color like this takes it up a notch.
Kate Spade Kimberly Dress ($548): super sweet and adorable, how can you NOT want this? I imagine myself wearing this to parties (which means I’d have to find parties but that’s another sitch…)

At the tail end of September, I attended Shiseido’s Fall 2011 preview, featuring the latest in skincare and makeup launches. Guided (via audio) by the brand’s artistic director, Dick Page, I walked through the latest Shiseido has to offer (available now).
While I’ll cover the skincare in a later post, I was instantly smitten with Shiseido’s color options for fall. Their Shimmering Cream Eye Color ($25), available in 12 various shades from bright yellows to smokey blacks, offer long-lasting color in a compact, creamy formula. I normally equate Shiseido with skincare so this was quite the eye-opener. The joy of these little guys is that it applies seamlessly with your fingers (something that I actually hate to do with some eye makeup because it gets messy — fast) but this goes on without falling out of its pot or sliding across my fingers. Glides on and stays put — what more could you ask for?

New to the brand is a stippling foundation brush that features contoured strands to ensure that makeup is evenly applied. For the aptly named, Perfect Foundation Brush ($30), Shiseido partnered with one of the oldest traditional brush workshops in Japan on the synthetic bristles to make sure it picks up your makeup, whether it’s a powder, cream or liquid. Small and adorable, this looks like the go-to brush for even coverage without having to cake on your foundation.

As much as I love BRIGHT ASS nail colors during the spring and summer, I am OBSESSED with the dark but not black colors of autumn beauty. Perhaps it’s all my years of watching shows like The City and The Rachel Zoe Project where girls sport the “I work in fashion and have serious nails” nail look but once September/ October rolls around I have to wear the black but so not black nail.
“This Fall, manicures are emerging in waves of rich jewel tones, earthy and worn shades, and comfortable colors - as cozy as a boyfriend’s t-shirt,” says CND Co-founder and Style Director, Jan Arnold.
During the Fall/Winter 2011 fashion shows, I went backstage and interviewed some of the best in beauty, including the creative geniuses behind Creative Nail Design (CND). For fall, runway manicures unite lavish eggplant purple and deep blues with decadent gilded gold. For your own opulent, jewel-toned nailcolor, CND’s limited edition The Look: Fall 2011 ($29) box set is perf! The set includes Midnight Sapphire (a deep cobalt blue crème), Dark Amethyst (velvet aubergine crème) and Sheer 24K Sparkle (gold lamé effect ). These jewel tones were seen at Sachin & Babi, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jen Kao and Monique Lhuillier.

All of these polishes apply beautifully and I’m pretty much smitten with the way CND formulates their nail lacquers. Not too thick but not watery thin, they apply pretty smoothly and evenly without any air bubbles. Also, one coat is more than enough with the darker colors. As I’m a creature of habit, I apply two for an uber dark look.
The Look: Fall 2011 box set is available while supplies last at select salons and professional beauty supply stores. Wanna learn more? Check out cnd.com.

This week’s music video comes from some singer called Ke$ha. The single, Tik Tok, makes absolutely no sense but I’m a sucker for an infectious beat and easy chorus. Not to mention her sequined jacket towards the ending totes had me wanting to scoop one up. Why not? It’s so on trend for Fall ’09…check out Philip Lim’s Fall 2009 collection…
For a more college budget friendly version, Forever 21 has got us covered with their silver 3/4 sleeve blazer ($32.80)
Enjoy the video! (feel free to dance in your seat at work…you’re not really doing anything important anyway
…)
Tell me are you wearing sequins this fall??
