So I layer on every “preppy” pieces I own. But me being me, I have to add other elements. Style is a funny thing isn’t it? I still don’t quite know what to call my personal style but I do know what I love, what I will and won’t wear, and how to wear it. There are certain buzzwords thrown around on the subject “uptown meets downtown,” “romantic,” and yes “preppy.” I like to say comfortable but apparently that’s not descriptive enough.
In other news, I’m killing it with the outfit posts this week, aren’t I? This was taken earlier this week pre-Aveda haircut. The stars have to be the blazer (on sale!) and the shoes (new for spring!) which worked so perfectly together in a moment of unplanned glory.
What I’m wearing: Banana Republic blazer; Forever 21 tee; Madewell jeans (on constant rotation); Coach flats (gifted); Kate Spade iPad case (used as a clutch); Juicy Couture necklace
Guess what!?! It’s warming up in NYC! I know it’s like beating a non issue but I feel the need to tell everyone just how amazing it is when the city warms up. It’s been slightly schizo the past few days so it’s only natural I JUMPED at the chance to wear a springtime dress and bare legs. Yeah, that’s right. I said BARE LEGS!
PS - your eyes do not deceive you, I cut off more of my hair so that it’s a pretty pixie and less bowl cut thingamabobby. I went to Aveda on Monday (Earth Day!) while they were attempting to break the Guinness World Record during a global cut-a-thon. Best 40 bucks spent since money went to a local charity. You can still help Aveda raise money for Earth Month by purchasing a Light the Way candle!
What I’m wearing: Juicy Couture dress; Coach sandals (gifted); Kate Spade bag (old); Prada sunglasses; bcbg watch (gifted); J. Crew bracelets; Kate Spade knot bangle
The sole purpose of yesterday’s outfit was to test the limits on how many shades of pink I can pull off in one outfit. What’s not pictured here is my pink hat AND beats headphones (I figure, I’d spare you). #killedit
Can we also talk about my sneakers? They’re part of the Kate Spade x Keds collection and my second pair. I can’t say no to polka dots and gingham so I ended up picking up both pairs and cannot wait to wear it all summer. They’re unbelievably comfy (doesn’t hurt the arch) and a-do-ra-ble!
After shopping my life away these past couple of weeks, I’ve instituted a strict shopping ban for the next 60 days since I really need to save. Apartment hunting has proven just how poor I am and need to save up since my budget can get approximately a half a room in NYC (not fun).
outfit details: blazer and tee: forever 21 // jeans: madewell // sneakers: kate spade x keds // bag: coach (gifted) // watch: bcbg (gifted) // sunglasses: cole haan (gifted) // necklaces: my mom’s and juicy couture
No secret here that I love sneakers and I’ve been a pretty loyal fan of my Dunks for years now. To see the fashion world embracing kicks means that my worlds are colliding and I’m thrilled. It now means that a) I can wear ‘em to work without worrying about the shade that ensues, and b) I can claim to be fashionable and comfortable #atthesamedamntime. Below are a few I’m crushing on and may succumb to if the price is right
1. Kate Spade x Keds, $75 - $85: Dying. DYING! I envision a world where my closet stays stacked with items from Kate Spade because I love the brand’s commitment to color. With a motto like “Live Colorfully,” you can bet your bottom dollars that these are not only colorful but terribly cute. The shoe line will feature eight styles decorated with polka dots (love), gingham (so precious), chevron (hallelujah!) and nautical prints (I’m officially dead). PLUS you can choose from shades like orange, hot pink, and blue. This is launching at Nordstrom this month and I need to get a pair. Stat.
2. Keds® x Madewell Floral High-Top Sneakers, $75: Keds is on a roll this season and are determined to make it into your closet one way or another. These canvas sneakers are custom-made style in pretty antique-floral print and it practically SCREAMS “Spring!” from the rooftop. There are also two other styles in this series, all available now at Madewell.
3. The Nike Dunk High Skinny Shoe, $85: a sneaker round up wouldn’t be proper without an homage to Nike Dunks. Dunks are a way of life in my neck of the woods and I can’t ever imagine a world without ‘em. These have a slim high-top profile for extra stability and are built to be comfortable all day long (via the full-length EVA midsole that allows lightweight cushioning and impact absorption).
4. Alejandro Ingelmo Neon Trons, $495.00: for Spring/Summer 2013, footwear designer Alejandro Ingelmo is offering all neon everything with a range of vivid, neon colored styles including his classic tron sneakers. I don’t know what else to say other than that it comes in three different hues (pink, orange, and yellow). And they’re pretty bad ass.
Here’s a surprise to exactly no one - I’m obsessed with headphones. I don’t mean just any kind either - I want ‘em BIG and LOUD. I love it when the music surrounds me, enhances the beat, pumps the bass, and provides crystal clear sounds.
I received the SOL Republic Tracks HD headphones a few days back and I’m now torn on which I love more - my new Tracks HD or the Beats I caved and purchased a few weeks back. As someone who primarily listens to hip hop, rap, soca, reggae (and then pop) I look for something that provides a sick bass. When I first started listening to music on the Tracks HD (first song was “Rack City” natch), I was blown away. The sound engines (earcups) started thumping and, yes, I got hype.
Tracks HD are the first interchangeable headphones and not only offer great sound but amazing technology. Constructed of a seriously advanced polymer compound, their FlexTech™ Sound Track headband is built to withstand heavy abuse. This means if you’re like me and tend to just throw your headphones in your bag (or, ahem, fall asleep with them on), it can be twisted, bent, and dropped without fear of breaking. Also, you can switch out the headband which is like getting a new set every time! The three-button Mic + Music Control lets you adjust the volume, pause/resume/skip music and answer/hang-up calls. My only cons would be that they don’t bend like my Urbanears, Beats, and Fanny Wang but the Tracks HD comes with a slim-fit carrying case. And really, that’s miniscule compared to everything that you get! The simple fact that the headbands can be twisted and the like without breaking — I’ll take it and not complain.
NOW THE FUN PART: ’tis better to give than to receive so one (1) lucky MissWYA reader will be able to win a set of their own SOL Republic Tracks HD headphones!
