So I layer on every “preppy” pieces I own. But me being me, I have to add other elements. Style is a funny thing isn’t it? I still don’t quite know what to call my personal style but I do know what I love, what I will and won’t wear, and how to wear it. There are certain buzzwords thrown around on the subject “uptown meets downtown,” “romantic,” and yes “preppy.” I like to say comfortable but apparently that’s not descriptive enough.
In other news, I’m killing it with the outfit posts this week, aren’t I? This was taken earlier this week pre-Aveda haircut. The stars have to be the blazer (on sale!) and the shoes (new for spring!) which worked so perfectly together in a moment of unplanned glory.
What I’m wearing: Banana Republic blazer; Forever 21 tee; Madewell jeans (on constant rotation); Coach flats (gifted); Kate Spade iPad case (used as a clutch); Juicy Couture necklace
The sole purpose of yesterday’s outfit was to test the limits on how many shades of pink I can pull off in one outfit. What’s not pictured here is my pink hat AND beats headphones (I figure, I’d spare you). #killedit
Can we also talk about my sneakers? They’re part of the Kate Spade x Keds collection and my second pair. I can’t say no to polka dots and gingham so I ended up picking up both pairs and cannot wait to wear it all summer. They’re unbelievably comfy (doesn’t hurt the arch) and a-do-ra-ble!
After shopping my life away these past couple of weeks, I’ve instituted a strict shopping ban for the next 60 days since I really need to save. Apartment hunting has proven just how poor I am and need to save up since my budget can get approximately a half a room in NYC (not fun).
outfit details: blazer and tee: forever 21 // jeans: madewell // sneakers: kate spade x keds // bag: coach (gifted) // watch: bcbg (gifted) // sunglasses: cole haan (gifted) // necklaces: my mom’s and juicy couture
No secret here that I love sneakers and I’ve been a pretty loyal fan of my Dunks for years now. To see the fashion world embracing kicks means that my worlds are colliding and I’m thrilled. It now means that a) I can wear ‘em to work without worrying about the shade that ensues, and b) I can claim to be fashionable and comfortable #atthesamedamntime. Below are a few I’m crushing on and may succumb to if the price is right
1. Kate Spade x Keds, $75 - $85: Dying. DYING! I envision a world where my closet stays stacked with items from Kate Spade because I love the brand’s commitment to color. With a motto like “Live Colorfully,” you can bet your bottom dollars that these are not only colorful but terribly cute. The shoe line will feature eight styles decorated with polka dots (love), gingham (so precious), chevron (hallelujah!) and nautical prints (I’m officially dead). PLUS you can choose from shades like orange, hot pink, and blue. This is launching at Nordstrom this month and I need to get a pair. Stat.
2. Keds® x Madewell Floral High-Top Sneakers, $75: Keds is on a roll this season and are determined to make it into your closet one way or another. These canvas sneakers are custom-made style in pretty antique-floral print and it practically SCREAMS “Spring!” from the rooftop. There are also two other styles in this series, all available now at Madewell.
3. The Nike Dunk High Skinny Shoe, $85: a sneaker round up wouldn’t be proper without an homage to Nike Dunks. Dunks are a way of life in my neck of the woods and I can’t ever imagine a world without ‘em. These have a slim high-top profile for extra stability and are built to be comfortable all day long (via the full-length EVA midsole that allows lightweight cushioning and impact absorption).
4. Alejandro Ingelmo Neon Trons, $495.00: for Spring/Summer 2013, footwear designer Alejandro Ingelmo is offering all neon everything with a range of vivid, neon colored styles including his classic tron sneakers. I don’t know what else to say other than that it comes in three different hues (pink, orange, and yellow). And they’re pretty bad ass.
although we’re still deep into summer, I can’t help but be enamored with all of the Fall merchandise hitting the stores. I try to stay away from overall color palettes and schemes because I’m non-committal. I can’t ever make up my mind and to dedicate myself to one color scheme is a bit scary. THAT SAID, I can’t help but navigate towards rich hues, namely blues and purples. For now I’ll focus on blue, mmkay?
Athe Zig Zag Coat by DV by Dolce Vita ($209): I’ve yet to find a perfect fall to winter coat and this might be it. Full length sleeves, oversized collar, belted waistline — this is definitely the polished look I’m looking for.
Isabel Marant Bekett leather and suede sneakers ($665): let’s face it, these are everywhere. I never thought I’d want to wear a wedge sneakerbut I hear these are super comfortable (and they’re okay to wear to work and events without feeling sloppy).
DL1961 Bag Essentials Emma Bali ($178): part of the Snob Essentials collaboration betweenDL1961 Premium Denim and BagSnob, these dip-dyed coated skinny jeans are perfect with kicks and a regular tee or dressed up with a pair of sexy pumps.
Madewell soft silk boyshirt ($80): we know about the classic white button down but a bright color like this takes it up a notch.
Kate Spade Kimberly Dress ($548): super sweet and adorable, how can you NOT want this? I imagine myself wearing this to parties (which means I’d have to find parties but that’s another sitch…)
