fall 2015 wish list

It happens every year. August rolls around and instead of enjoying the dog days of summer, I’m plotting my autumn lewk. I love autumn even if it only lasts about three weeks in New York before the blistering cold sets in. It’s cool enough for booties and a light jacket but warm enough for iced coffee. Was that basic? YOLO.

The new arrivals online have caught my eye and so wish lists have been made, outfits are being pinned, and my debit card could be heard whimpering in wallet.

Alexander Wang Long Vest // Lavish Alice Sleeveless Trench Coat // Theory Bolton Tremayah Sleeveless Coat. A budget friendly option is this Banana Republic vest (it’s pink!) but get it quick since high street stores sell out fast.

3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli Mini Satchel in Military // Mackage Rubie Crossbody // Alexander Wang Emile in Pebbled Black with Rose Gold. Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be - Phillip Lim and Alexander Wang are two of my favorite handbag lines. Sturdy, beautiful, and well-crafted.

Stuart Weitzman 5050 Stretch Suede Boots // Splendid Murietta Suede Booties // Splendid Magnolia Chelsea Booties (Fact. I bought these in the middle of writing this post)

shopbop friends & family!

Now that Easter has come and gone, I’m actually in a spring state of mind. I’m ready to shed the layers, burn my tights, wear short skirts — you get the idea. The fact that Shopbop is having yet another sale (enter code spring25 for 25% off your order) only means that it’s fate. Time for me to pick out those key pieces that’ll take me from spring to summer.
Shopbop Sale

I personally love 3.1 Phillip Lim accessories and have had my eye on “Gorge” 31 Second Pouch for quite some time. It’s super small and chic - the perfect evening out clutch to carry the essentials but still love fun. I hate pieces that take themselves too seriously.

Ahh the Pashli. I love mine (so much so that I purchased TWO last year from Shopbop). I’ve put myself on a no bag buying ban and it hurts so much. This color (White Peach) is so precious! Then there’s the Alexander Wang Rockie in Air Force which makes me want to scream inside it’s so beautiful. http://bit.ly/1FhXIh5 I have it in a pretty pale pink hue that’s perfect for spring but if you’re in the market for a small bag that can carry a ton - this is it!

Lastly I’m on a jumpsuit kick and just discovered the label findersKEEPERS. It’s an Australian company that creates feminine pieces that are alluring and sexy without trying too hard. I went back and forth between the three jumpsuits pictured but decided on the Here We Go Jumpsuit in white since I love that color against my skin tone. Who knows - the Shop sale lasts for three days so I have just enough time to snap up another one (as long as they don’t sell out!)

what i wore: rewardstyle party

OHAI GUYS! Guess what we’re doing after 10,087,622,215 years of not doing any outfit photos (started a new job, lost my main photographer, life, etc. etc.) I am back with one thanks to the folks at GiGi New York who snapped my picutre at the rewardStyle fashion week shindig.

BINGO!

Now the sweatshirt: when a friend asks “hey do you want to come to the Phillip Lim for Target party?” the only acceptable answer is yes. It was a unicorn of events where I ended up inside before the rush of editors and bloggers and was able to snap up all of the pieces I wanted (minus a dress but I like to think that was divine intervention).

Now whenever these designer collaborations pop up I temporarily lose my mind - not because of the price point - but because I tend to really like (or love in the case of Prabal) the designer at hand. I was a bit hesitant with the Lim collab only because I saw a blatant knockoff of the Pashli as an option for purchase. My friend Dena summed it up pretty well in her post so it doesn’t bear any repeating. It wasn’t until I saw a friend’s clutch from a press preview that I decided it was worth a gander. I went to the preview party and conquered. I got the sweater above (obviously), two scarves (BOOM and leopard print), animal print skirt, trench coat, satchel, and a clutch (someone told me it’s an iPad case for dudes but YOLO).

A simple rule for shopping high/ low collaborations is as follows: don’t go in expecting designer quality. At the end of the day, the collection will be available at Target (or sometimes H&M) which means I never expect silk and genuine leather. If you want a designer, shop designer. If you want something to look great for a few seasons, go wild! I still have dresses from the Rodarte x Target partnership from 2009 so it’s all about how you take care of your clothes.

Outfit details: BOOM Sweater (Phillip Lim for Target; out Sept. 15), 3.1 Phillip Lim pants, booties from a boutique in Paris (old; similar here)

The most wonderful time of the year was upon us last week in New York City, and I don’t mean the holidays. Sample sale season. It’s the time of the year when brands decide to put last season’s (and sometimes current) products up for grabs so us mere mortals can actually afford it, although some brands will always be out of financial reach. While I don’t consider myself a complete bargain hunter or a budget fashionista, I do look out for sales and deals simply because I’m stubborn and will not pay full price for something if there’s a more affordable option.

Case in point: these 3.1 Phillip Lim draped silk crepe pants that I got for 75 bucks (retail $375). Their perfectly slouchy and are pleated, comfortable, and stylish. See also, these J. Crew Mona pumps which are actually on sale now online (shop here). Although I bought it a wee too big (I had on thick tights when I tried them on), they’re still a good fit and perfect for work. Every girl should have a pair of nude pumps and it baffled me that I never owned a pair! Winner, winner, chicken dinner…

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SS2011: 3.1 Phillip Lim

“The modern female dandy-stemming from individuality, balance and delicacy,” shares designer Phillip Lim. Lim adds, “The dande-lion is colorful in spirit, subtle in her way. She has evolved to exist in modern time, she has the strength of a lion and is subtly whimsical in her approach, she is the Dande-lion.”

At 3.1 Phillip Lim Women’s Spring 2011 show this past fashion week, City Slick nails were inspired by urban reflections on oil slicks, for “elegance with street cred,” as described by Designer Phillip Lim.

Angi Wingle created the look using one coat of CND’s Asphalt topped with Copper Shimmer Effect for a bronze nail with black undertones. These versatile manicures and pedicures accessorized airy, textured dresses in tan, blue, black and white.

For the hair, hairstylist (and genius) Odile Gilbert (on behalf of PHYTO) created an easy to do chignon. To get the look, follow these steps:

Spray Phytovolume Actif volumizing spray to the root and work through hair. Blow dry hair and side part hair, leaving enough to create (or give the illusion of) a side swept bang. Pull hair back into a low pony, then twist hair to create an easy chignon and pin. For the bang, spray Phytolaque soie light hairspray to 3 front pieces and curl pieces with a curling iron, creating ringlets. Pull three piece “bang” to side as if you were creating a braid, and leave one piece free to fall along face. Twist, then pin pieces above the ear. Finish with Phytolaque medium hold hairspray. Apply Phyto 7 crème de jour leave-in conditioner to smooth hair.

The minimalistic makeup was led by Lisa Butler for NARS Cosmetics who created a look hat was all about the nude lips and sculpted cheeks. “Youthful elegance was what we were aiming for,” said Butler.
