Bobbi Brown

summer favorites

Monday, August 13, 2012

writing summer roundups often make me sad simply because that means the end of summer is nigh. while I don’t want it to be completely over (hello weekend beach trips!), I’m not completely sad (fall shopping!). so as we’re in the midst of august, why not do a round up of my summer must haves?

Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh

In a Vaseline® Total Moisture® Study, 93% of the members said they’d recommend Vaseline® Total Moisture® lotion. Count me in! The aloe fresh lotion is super lightweight, smells good, and provides great moisture (without feeling thick or heavy). The scent is wonderfully light, meaning it doesn’t interfere or compete with my fragrance. This is actually something I plan on continuing to use into the fall.

Bobbi Brown Beach Eau de Parfum and Caudalíe Beauty Elixir

Bobbi Brown Beach Caudalie

Bobbi Brown’s Beach eau de parfum is summer in a bottle. I spent most of my summer tracking it down — so popular it was sold out everywhere! Some say it smells like sunscreen but, oddly enough, I don’t get that at all. It has an intoxicating blend of jasmine, sea spray, and mandarin; it’s perfect for day because it’s not over powering, but super fresh and crisp. Caudalíe’s Beauty Elixir is something that’s been in my beauty arsenal for a while but have never used. Why? NO CLUE! Part serum mist, part toner, all amazing. I use it before applying moisturizer and carry it in my bag for a quick pick me up during the day. Super refreshing on super hot days.

Maybelline Color Nail Lacquer in Pink Shock and Sweet Clementine

maybelline color show

Maybelline recently launched a new nail lacquer line complete with 40 shades, an app where you can virtually try on the colors and a Pinterest board for inspiration. Talk about going HAM. First, kudos to Maybelline for putting the labels on the top so I don’t have to dig to find a shade. While all of the polishes vary in texture and opacity, I’ve found that Pink Shock (a bright pink) and Sweet Clementine (pretty tangerine) look great with 3 coats and lat about four to five days without chipping.

JEWELRY!!

Watch by C. Wonder both bracelets by J. Crew.

You’ve no doubt seen these in my outfit posts but I had to include them anyway. I’ve been wearing these everyday since I purchased them and refuse to wear anything else most days.

Theyskens’ Theory Atter Medium Turnlock Bag

Ladylike, compact, and super red. I’m trying to get into smaller bags and this is doing the trick.

Don’t forget to enter my Vaseline giveaway (extended!). Leave a comment below (or email me [email protected]) and share how many lotions you have in *your* medicine cabinet, for a chance to win a Vaseline Total Moisture. FIVE winners will be selected.

This is a sponsored post by Vaseline but all thoughts are my own. Please don’t forget that you can still help the people of Haiti, donate to the Red Cross today. Thank you.

summer at the beach

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

For the first time in two years, I’m not going away with my family to go back home to Haiti. This is probably the saddest news in the world. Although I complain in the beginning, there’s nothing like two blissful weeks of no internet access, hot weather, and family all around.

That said, I do have an entire summer to plan mini getaways with my friends, lounge about doing nothing (weekends only since I DO have a full time job), and maybe (perhaps) go to the beach. I love the beach, I do. I just hate the ones in NYC. Ew. Granted, I haven’t been in several years but, whatever.

If I were to venture out into the land of tiny bikinis and sand castles, I already have an idea of what I would pack/wear. So let the mental preparations begin:

Beach

Kiehl’s Activated Sun Protector Sunscreen for Body SPF 50 ($23.00): beach or no beach, protection from the sun is a must. This lightweight moisturizer is ideal for summer since it’s non-greasy and doesn’t leave a grayish tint on dark skin.

Graceann Sunglasses by Kate Spade ($128.00): my love of oversized frames knows no bounds. These are absolutely adorable and give me a slightly retro feel. Or Jackie O. Something is being given and I like it.

Mossimo® Womens Mix & Match 2-Piece Swimsuit (from Target): nothing says Americana like a good ole’ red, white and blue bikini.

Bobbi Brown Beach Fragrance ($67.50): apparently this is Bobbi Brown’s best-selling fragrance but I just discovered it a little under two weeks ago. A lightly intoxicating blend of sand jasmine (what?), sea spray, and mandarin, Beach is the ultimate summer fragrance.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable™ Balm Stain in Lovesick ($8.00): is it a lipstick? lip balm? stain? It’s a stain but hydrates like a balm and provides coverage like a lipstick. Boom. I fun chubby crayon, it comes in 12 shades (Lovesick is a pretty pink) that lasts hours. HOURS.

Zara Shopper Basket ($80.00): I have this in brown but this cream color is calling my name. It’s perfect for spring and summer (just try not to get it dirty!!) and can carry beach towels, snacks, flip flops, water — YOU NAME IT BUD.

What are you up to this summer?

Pretty Powerful? You BET!

Monday, February 6, 2012

“I believe that beauty comes in all ages, colors, shapes and sizes,” says Bobbi of her inspiration for Pretty Powerful. “It’s not about looking like someone else or trying to be someone you’re not. It’s about figuring out what works for you.” She adds: “Being Pretty Powerful is much bigger than beauty. It’s about confidence and the path you take to achieve it.”

Bobbi Brown’s Pretty Powerful campaign has got to be one of my favorite beauty campaigns simply because it encourages all women to celebrate them — not a product or a trend — but the individual.

For Pretty Powerful 2.0, Bobbi handpicked 30 women, from across the globe and a multitude of backgrounds, careers and lifestyles.

When Glam reached out and asked me what I thought made me Pretty Powerful I thought hard, too hard as a matter of fact. It wasn’t up until I overheard a conversation my mother was having on the phone where she put things into perspective. So, taking what my mother said and adding a few more, here is what contributes to my beauty and help with my inner confidence:

1. Determined: I don’t give up until I succeed
2. I measure success on my own terms NOT what other think or want it to be
3. Fiercely loyal: once I’m on your side, I’m there through thick and thin
4. I’m not afraid to do things alone, despite what my friends may think
5. I want the best for those around me and will try my hardest
6. Humor: I’m not afraid to laugh at myself, crack jokes to break the ice or tell really horrible stories in an attempt to make others laugh.
7. I have the biggest smile ever: when I was younger I used to be ashamed of just how wide I grin (odd, right?) but now you can’t stop me baby!
8. Ambitious: pretty self explanatory!
9. Educated: I pride myself on being the first in my family to graduate college. Being first generation American, I knew it was not only important for me to finish school my own well being but I wanted to make my mother proud.
10. I don’t let my surroundings define who I am. Am I from the best part of Brooklyn? No. Did I let that stop me? HELL NO! I think it’s important to know remember where you came from but don’t let that hinder you from becoming something great

Behind the Scenes Beauty with Barney’s New York

Thursday, March 3, 2011

I must preface this post with two widely known facts about myself. First, I’m chronically late everywhere I go. I’m convinced I have a problem which I’ve affectionately dubbed “Late-nitis”. While I haven’t found any scientific evidence, I’m convinced late-nitis exists as a health condition as that’s the only explanation I have as to why I arrive everywhere 5-45 minutes tardy for the party.Secondly, I’m horrible with names. Lastly, I rarely travel above 14th Street, NYC (okay, so that’s three facts - math was never my forte).

Now onto the post…

Makeup Artist Jason Ascher

Last week, I ventured north of my self imposed equator to Barney’s New York - the famed retailer on Madison Avenue - for a night of beauty, drinks and mini foods. Makeup artist Jason Ascher - whom I called ‘James’ on Twitter all night long - dished on a couple of his beauty must-haves all available on the Barney’s beauty level. From Japanese beauty brand Koh Gen Do to all time favorites like Bobbi Brown and Sue Devitt, the Barney’s beauty level is one for beauty lovers to visit and admire.

While I missed most of James’ Jason’s presentation, I did manage to sneak a few tips from the ma of the hour as well as beauty tricks from the Barney’s makeup artists that were on deck.

TIPS

- Force yourself out of your comfort zone: Jason discussed the importance of stepping outside of your zone as a means to find new beauty tricks and faves. While he LOVES the neutral look, he’s been trying bolder looks on his clients and finds that they love it as much as he does.

- Find a balance: smokey eye OR bold lip (very few people can pair both and still look sane/hot/normal)

- Koh Gen Do Gommage Gel (available exclusively at Barney’s): contains crushed pearl and rosemary but does not contain any artificial fragrances, petroleum-based mineral oils or parabens.

- NARS Calanque Eyeshadow Trio: a great go to eye color that kicks up neutrals a notch. It’s a very rich and beautiful color that provide intense color without being overpowering.

- Spice up your fragrance repertoire: Women wearing men’s cologne is quite sexy but what’s better are unisex scents. Odin has a selection of fragrances that hasn’t disappointed Ascher and I’m itching to try out. See also Chantecaille’s new scents laced with vetyver. You guys know how I feel about vetyver ;)

Sue Devitt Beausoleil Pace Palette
Beauty is Life Multi-Touch in Baline
Giorgio Armani Beauty, Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara

Le Labo Tubereuse

Next time you find yourself north of the equator Uptown, check out Barney’s New York’s beauty level (660 Madison Avenue) or visit online.

Valentine’s Day for the Single Gal

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

It’s Monday evening on Valentine’s Day and just about every girl I know if touching up her makeup and changing into date clothes. They’re headed out to meet their boo/ boyfriend/fiance/husband. I am - not pouting or shouting - but touching up MY makeup for the epicness that could be.

I find myself single EVERY Valentine’s Day and this year, rather than pout (or shout), I’m hanging in their with the best of ‘em. So if you find yourself alone not held down this year, smile girl — tonight’s your night. As I fully believe in the power of beautiful lips, here’s my breakdown on how to shine tonight, tomorrow and everyday after.

Before the puckering can begin it’s IMPERATIVE you exfoliate and hydrate your lips. Nothing’s worst than seeing dry and chappy lips. Grab a toothbrush and slap on some Vaseline to slough off dead skin. Afterward, apply a moisturizing lip balm before you apply your lip color — your lips will thank you.
1. Mario Badescu Lip Wax SPF 15 ($7)
Contains a blend of Rose Hips, Palm Oil and Vitamin E Oil for an emollient, creamy lip treatment all while protecting lips against UVA and UVB rays.
2. SUPER by Dr. Perricone Lush Lips ($20)
With coconut oil to nourish lips and shea butter to soothe skin, I’ve been using this all weekend before my lipstick. Great for use in the winter and summer (although there isn’t sunscreen so double up in the summer!).
3. KORRES Lip and Cheek Tint ($10)
This little guy hydrates and provides lips with a juicy pop of color.

After prepping your lips, line them with a lip liner in the color of your choice.
1. Stila long wear lip liner (18) goes on smoothly and provides lips with enough pigment to actually skip the lipstick (but what fun is that?)
2. Make Up For Ever. ($17) Enough said.
3. Wet n’ Wild Color Icon Lip Liner ($2) if you’re looking for something that provides color but doesn’t break the bank, wet n’ wild is definitely your drug of choice.

1. Lancôme Color Design Lipstick ($22) This lipstick is infused with soothing ingredients, so lips are left feeling soft all day without worrying about reapplication.
2. Bobbi Brown Heart Truth Creamy Lip Color Trio ($59): This limited-edition Creamy Lip Color Trio was created to support The Heart Truth’s efforts to raise awareness about women and heart disease. Featuring Creamy Lip Color lipsticks in three universally flattering shades – Nectar, Blue Raspberry and Uber Pink – it offers long-lasting wear and a soft, creamy shine.
3. LipSurgence™ Natural Matte Lip Tint ($24): I am OBSESSED with this peppermint-infused matte lip stain. It glides on effortlessly and provides coverage for up to five hours (if not more).
4. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24): Other than tarte’s lip stain, NARS is the only matte lip pencil I ever apply on my lips due to it’s coverage and ability to NOT dry out my lips. WIN!

Happy Valentine’s Day dolls!!
