Vaseline

summer favorites

Monday, August 13, 2012

writing summer roundups often make me sad simply because that means the end of summer is nigh. while I don’t want it to be completely over (hello weekend beach trips!), I’m not completely sad (fall shopping!). so as we’re in the midst of august, why not do a round up of my summer must haves?

Vaseline Total Moisture Aloe Fresh

In a Vaseline® Total Moisture® Study, 93% of the members said they’d recommend Vaseline® Total Moisture® lotion. Count me in! The aloe fresh lotion is super lightweight, smells good, and provides great moisture (without feeling thick or heavy). The scent is wonderfully light, meaning it doesn’t interfere or compete with my fragrance. This is actually something I plan on continuing to use into the fall.

Bobbi Brown Beach Eau de Parfum and Caudalíe Beauty Elixir

Bobbi Brown Beach Caudalie

Bobbi Brown’s Beach eau de parfum is summer in a bottle. I spent most of my summer tracking it down — so popular it was sold out everywhere! Some say it smells like sunscreen but, oddly enough, I don’t get that at all. It has an intoxicating blend of jasmine, sea spray, and mandarin; it’s perfect for day because it’s not over powering, but super fresh and crisp. Caudalíe’s Beauty Elixir is something that’s been in my beauty arsenal for a while but have never used. Why? NO CLUE! Part serum mist, part toner, all amazing. I use it before applying moisturizer and carry it in my bag for a quick pick me up during the day. Super refreshing on super hot days.

Maybelline Color Nail Lacquer in Pink Shock and Sweet Clementine

maybelline color show

Maybelline recently launched a new nail lacquer line complete with 40 shades, an app where you can virtually try on the colors and a Pinterest board for inspiration. Talk about going HAM. First, kudos to Maybelline for putting the labels on the top so I don’t have to dig to find a shade. While all of the polishes vary in texture and opacity, I’ve found that Pink Shock (a bright pink) and Sweet Clementine (pretty tangerine) look great with 3 coats and lat about four to five days without chipping.

JEWELRY!!

Watch by C. Wonder both bracelets by J. Crew.

You’ve no doubt seen these in my outfit posts but I had to include them anyway. I’ve been wearing these everyday since I purchased them and refuse to wear anything else most days.

Theyskens’ Theory Atter Medium Turnlock Bag

Ladylike, compact, and super red. I’m trying to get into smaller bags and this is doing the trick.

Don’t forget to enter my Vaseline giveaway (extended!). Leave a comment below (or email me [email protected]) and share how many lotions you have in *your* medicine cabinet, for a chance to win a Vaseline Total Moisture. FIVE winners will be selected.

This is a sponsored post by Vaseline but all thoughts are my own. Please don’t forget that you can still help the people of Haiti, donate to the Red Cross today. Thank you.

what’s in your medicine cabinet? take a peek into mine!

Friday, July 27, 2012

Did you know: more than one in three (36%) women admit to cleaning out their medicine cabinet less than once every two years. Heck, 13% of women admit to not ever cleaning out their medicine cabinets.

*raises hand*

When I read the results from a recent medicine cabinet survey, conducted by Vaseline, I knew that I was guilty of this. To be honest, my medicine cabinet isn’t someplace I go to store much (I blame this on sharing a bathroom and being over protective of my beauty goods…I’m selfish). After reading that over one-third of women admitted to having more than 20 products stored in their medicine cabinet, I decided to not be part of that 34% of women (or at least try). It was kind of shocking to see just how much I kept but didn’t use. So old makeup was thrown out, gross lotions tossed, and I was left with a simpler, decluttered space.

(this is my version of simple, okay)

The question turned into why did I have so much crap (besides the fact that I’m a beauty hoarder?). Nearly two-thirds of women own more than one body lotion, and almost one-fourth (23%) say they own more than four. I can tell you why I owned so many: I needed one to provide moisture (no one likes to be ashy) but one to smell good (duh) and one that contained sun protection. I mixed, matched, and moved on quicker before I could spell my name.

When I was given the all improved Vaseline® Total Moisture® lotion to try out, I was thrilled.

It applies evenly and gives me the moisture my dry skin craves. I’m always a bit hesitant to test out new lotions during the summer due to the extreme heat but this Vaseline Total Moisture lotion is a dream. It’s non-greasy (amen!), absorbs quickly into skin, and combines pure oat extract and Stratys-3 multi-layer moisture. This allows the lotion to not only moisturize the top level of your skin but really penetrate. Leaves you feelin’ good, while lookin’ good!

The rest of the products:

  • Vaseline Petroleum Jelly: who didn’t grow up with this? My mother spent my childhood slathering this on since it was a welcome relief from dry skin
  • Neosporin: my niece comes over often and inherited my clumsiness
  • Makeup: foundations, powders, lipstick and blush — these are my moms since, you know, I share a bathroom
  • Razor clips: my brother thinks he’s a barber
  • SIMPLE Replenishing Rich Moisturizer: I’m super excited to have received this product. New to the States, this face moisturizer is gentle and great for sensitive skin. I’ve been applying it at night since it doesn’t contain any fragrance. Considering I sleep with a fan on my face, I’ve been known to wake up with dehydrated skin but this keeps me well moisturized.
***GIVEAWAY ALERT***

Leave a comment below (email me [email protected]) and share how many lotions you have in *your* medicine cabinet, for a chance to win a 10 oz. sample of Vaseline Total Moisture. Giveaway will be comprised of five (5) prize packages, each including one (1) 10oz. bottle of Vaseline Total Moisture. Winners will be selected on August 3, 2012. No purchase necessary.

Add Some Sparkle (plus a GIVEAWAY!)

Friday, December 9, 2011

If there’s one thing I love it’s anything bedazzled and/ or sparkly. If it’s shiny, I want it in my possession. Considering you read this blog, I figure you might be interested in the same. Right?!

Well, when I heard that Chris March - the Project Runway alum turned costume designer and star of Bravo’s “Mad Fashion” - has collaborated with Vaseline® to design limited-edition bejeweled Vaseline® Lip Therapy® Original jars I KNEW I had to let YOU know. Remember when I declared my love of Vaseline a while ago? This is TEN TIMES BETTER! March customized the mini jars with nearly $50 of Swarovski crystals. It’s nothing groundbreaking or even revolutionary but it’s something I think everyone needs. ADD SOME SPARKLE TO YOUR LIFE FRIENDS!

A few questions did arise from my last post about Vaseline’s Lip Therapy mini jars so allow me to clarify the difference, mmkay? Both Lip Therapy Original and Vaseline Petroleum Jelly are made of 100% pure petroleum jelly BUT the difference is that Lip Therapy Original is made of a different type of petroleum jelly. This petroleum jelly was chosen specifically for this product to deliver high levels of moisture to the lips and not melt if carried in a pocket or purse.

Realizing the need for mini bedazzled jars in your lifestyle, Vaseline will be giving away 100 custom jars on 12/19 (starting at pm ET/5pm PT) as part of a one day, flash giveaway on www.VaselineLipTherapy.com. BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!

One lucky MissWYA reader will be able to get her (his? are there guys reading this blog?) on a jar of their own just by entering here! To enter, shoot me an email to [email protected] and tell how do you add sparkle in your life? The subject line of your email should read “Chris March & Vaseline.” The contest ends at 11pm (EST) on Wednesday, December 14th. On Friday, December 16th, I’ll be announcing the winner. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. readers only.

The standard jars are available at Wal-Mart and Target (SRP $1.99) this holiday season.

Pass my Vaseline…

Thursday, October 27, 2011

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know of my love of Vaseline. Yeah I’m one of those. Growing up, Vaseline was *everything* in my house. Dry skin? Pass the Vaseline. Chapped lips? Go get some Vaseline, girl. Wanted a massage? Grab the Vaseline and beg your older brother to do it. Trouble with the girl down the block…

But as I grew into a product hoarder junkie, I grew to love more and more products. It wasn’t up until recently I learned that my age old bestie has come in a smaller (and cuter!) package. I mean, really, how was one to tote a JAR of the stuff around? Vaseline Lip Therapy Original (the adorable mini version of the traditional Vaseline Petroleum Jelly jar) contains petrolatum, which works to instantly soften lips and lock in moisture.

It’s on the go touchups made easy! PLUS I use Vaseline for fixing flyaways in my hair AND as an alternative to when I can’t find my hand cream in the depth of my massive bag (just wipe off any excess with a tissue).

Tip: Extend the lifespan of your lipstick by mixing the last of the stick with Vaseline Lip Therapy for a brand new jar of tinted gloss.

Vaseline Lip Therapy is available at Wal-Mart for $0.99. TOTAL STEAL!

Winter Weather Faux Pas: The Hot Shower

Monday, December 28, 2009

I’ve finally admitted defeat and accepted the fact that winter is here and will be here for another two months. In this acceptance comes all of the things I know we’re not supposed to do- but I do them anyway.

Numero uno on this list is taking super warm (borderline hot) showers to keep me from freezing my tale off. Hot showers start my day off right, keeping me warm and relaxed before I head out the door into the dry air and blustery winds. However, it does more harm than good.

“Hot water exposure is among the worst things for your skin this time of year,” said Dr. Barbara Reed, a dermatologist in Denver. “People splash their face with hot water, jump into a hot bath or stand under the steaming hot water of a shower, and their skin suffers and reacts.” (New York Times, Feb ’09)

And while I know I’m making matters worst, I’m not ready to give up my hot water. To combat this I’ve been using Vaseline® Sheer Infusion™ with Stratys-3™.

Some moisturizers only treat the top layer of skin leaving us feeling sticky or greasy, others sink in so quickly you forget if you’ve applied it already. Vaseline’s Sheer Infusion™ with Stratys-3™ not only treats my dry winter skin, it moisturizes better than any other cream or body lotion I’ve tried recently. I received this from their PR people back in September but felt that it was way too thick (and sticky) to use during the warm weather but it has finally found permanent real estate in my winter skincare routine.

This moisturizer is different because it contains Stratys-3™, a patented multi-layer moisture complex that binds more moisture than the leading moisturizer ingredient. Vaseline® Sheer Infusion™ with Stratys-3™ infuses and suspends moisture at each layer of the skin. All Vaseline Sheer Infusion with Stratys-3 lotions are available at food, drug and mass retailers nationwide in both a 6.8oz bottle ($6.25) and 13.5oz pump ($8.99) size. Log on to www.vaseline.com/sheerinfusion for more info.
