Time for my September 2015 Beauty Favorites! September was quite a busy month with fashion week (watch my blogs here and here) and a little bit of personal traveling sprinkled in. I’ve been wearing a wee bit more makeup since autumn is rolling around - although you wouldn’t be able to tell with the weather we had (90 degrees oye!)
But I’ve been loving a few products and may have even found my Holy Grail setting powder. Watch to find out what it is!
For Summer 2015, NARS partnered with designer Christopher Kane to create – NEONEUTRAL, a limited edition collection of unexpected shades and formulas inspired by the nature of neon and the nude shades that complement them. The collection features a ten, limited edition products. There’s something for everyone as it’s a full line of eyeshadows, blushes, multiples and lip glosses. I received samples of two products: Outer Limits Single Eyeshadow and Quantum Illuminating Multiple. Outer Limits Single Eyeshadow ($25) is an iridescent rose gold with flecks of pink and gold sparkle. It has a soft texture, so soft that it tends to fall apart or break apart when applied. There is a lot of fall out so this is when I’d recommend applying your eye makeup BEFORE foundation. When it’s applied dry I notice that it’s hard to blend but if you spray your brush with a bit of Fix+ it’s much easier to apply. Also it’s best when patted versus swiped across the lid.
The Quantum Illuminating Multiple ($39) is a sheer iridescent magenta that’s exclusive to NARS boutiques and narscosmetics.com. I rarely (never) wear or use NARS multiples because I much prefer powder on my cheeks but this is one shade that I absolutely HAD to have.
It’s quite sheer but easily buildable if you’re looking for a more intense shade. When first applied, I noticed how dry the formula was but a bit velvety. I would use this solely as a blush. Although multiples can be used on cheeks and lips but this formula isn’t one that would perform well on your lips.
The collection is available at NARSCosmetics.com and NARS boutiques now, then at department and specialty stores on May 1, 2015. I definitely have my eye on the Starscape blush because it’s just so intense that you’d be a fool ot to get it if you have a deeper skin tone (plus if you’ve seen my top blushes video you’ll know I can’t say no to a hot pink blush).
When NARS releases a new foundation, my ears perk up and I start listening. Intently. It’s rare for me to be disappointed so I fully trust them as a brand. The new(ish) All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation caught my eye because of their promise: an oil-free foundation that delivers full, natural-looking coverage with one drop. If you’re telling me that ONE DROP is going to make me look ***flawless for 16-hours, I will gladly hand you my coins (in this case NARS took ALL of them - $48!)
Now, NARS recommends applying this with your fingers and when I did that, I hated it. Perhaps it’s my hatred of applying anything with my fingers but I did not like the coverage. The one drop thing also didn’t go over well with me. Now when I applied two drops with a flat top kabuki brush- bellissima!
See. I told you. Gorgeousness all on your computer/mobile screen.
What I loved most was how lightweight this foundation felt. It glided on and although it gave me a full coverage look, I did not look cakey and my skin didn’t feel like it was trapped under a layer of paint. I purchased the shade New Orleans—after going back and forth between it and Benares— since it’s more of a yellow undertone and meshes well with my undertone. I have oily skin and never did I see this break apart on my skin.
Does it last 16 hours? How the hell would I know! I don’t wear my makeup that long but it did last me a decent 10 hours (from work to play) without looking dull or requiring much touch ups. Since I am oily, I noticed a bit of shine along my forehead by the end of the night but I actually liked it since it was more of a glow than straight up oil factory.
Once again I’ve fallen and I can’t get up because of NARS. I actually am replacing my NARS Sheer Matte with this simply because of the lightweight texture. The All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation is available now in stores and online.
When NARS releases something, you pay attention. I previously featured the Dual Intensity eyeshadows in a video so I’ve always been a fan. True the individuals are on the pricier side ($29) but they are sooooo good. If you’ve been debating purchasing them, I recommend picking up the new NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow Palette since it features eight dual-intensity eyeshadows with a range from delicate peach pink to rich black orchid. It comes with a specially designed wet/dry eyeshadow brush that makes applying the shadows a dream when wet. I actually love using the shadows dry since they are velvety, smooth, and pretty buildable. The finely milled shadows are easily blended giving you a bit of control when applying. For night, I’ve used the shadows wet (well I’ll spritz my brush with MAC Fix+ or Glossier Rosewater Spray) and hot dahm! The color is more intense and longer lasting when wet so go for it. Although there are eight shadows the ability to where it wet or dry gives you a bit more versatility. For the price, you can’t go wrong!
The NARSissist Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow is available now in stores and online.
