Last week, I joined Anna Sui at her SoHo store to ring in the launch of her newest scent, La Nuit de Bohème.
When speaking to Ms. Sui, she described the scent as “it’s the same girl who wears La Vie de Bohème [launched last year] but this is what she wears at night.”
She’s still very bohemian and romantic but at night she comes alive. “She’s like a modern day Shahrazad,” she added. Notes in this fragrance include: champagne citrus, blackberry, lotus flower, rose, oud, cedar, vanilla orchid, patchouli and amber. It’s a pretty scent and one word to describe it after wearing it for a few days is: “yummy.” Not too warm or sweet, it’s actually great for day and I wouldn’t reserve this just for night (though I prefer deeper, sexier scents for evening…meow).
La Nuit de Bohème is available now at Beautylish.com and Anna Sui Stores and will be available at Nordstrom.com come Fall.
As if most of my money isn’t already wasted by all of the makeup I purchase (damn you MAC), now images of Anna Sui’s collection for Target has leaked (damn you The Cut.)
Target is up to it again offering designer collaborations for a moderately low price except this time they’re partnering with fashion designer Anna Sui. Sui is the second designer to work with Tar-jayy in the Designer Collaborations series (Alexander McQueen was the first back in February). The exclusive Anna Sui for Target collection was inspired by the four main female characters of the hit- and massively addictive- show, Gossip Girl. Launching on September 13, 3009 (middle of Fashion Week!) at 500 Target stores nationwide and Target.com. The collection will be available through October 17, 2009.
I plan to be there bright and early September 13th (that’s a Sunday bt dubs)…I’m thinking 7am-ish. Early? Yes. Crazy? No.
Not to be confused with Target’s GO International designer collaborations- Thakoon, Proenza Schouler, Rogan and more recently Tracy Feith- Designer Collaborations is a separate entity. Both of these initiatives offer exclusive collections from high end designers- who normally charge $200+ for their clothing- to woman at an affordable price. They often sell out super quickly so you have to be there THE DAY it starts when Tar-jayy opens. Designer Collaborations, however, tend to run a bit pricier ($69) as opposed to the GO International collections ($25).
Below are the looks and the Gossip Girl characters who inspired them.
Blair:
Jenny
Vanessa
Serena
I already see seven pieces from this collection that I’m ready to snap up! Funny thing is judging from this I’m a mix of Blair and Vanessa as those are the two that I am looking to purchase. My anticipated purchase: Blair - both black dresses -the blue dress -the last blue and brown trapeze dress Jenny: -the first look with the sweater Vanessa: -EVERYTHING! Serena: -Leather Jacket -last look (grey and black dress)
Looks like I’ll be saving up my paychecks this summer. For now, I’m looking at about $500. Or a bit more..haha.
Am I weird for calculating (already) how much I intend to spend??? What say you? Are you Blair, Serena, Jenny, or a Vanessa?
I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed by a collection by Anna Sui. She’s like the fashion worlds Rock Queen. Her resort collection is signature Sui. Resort is the most wearable collection a designer produces. There are no frilly nonsenses- just clothes. Anna Sui is one of those designers that, if I had the money, I would definitely invest in.
When I first saw the pictures, though, I must say that it did remind me a little too much of her past collections. It’s like her Fall 2009 and Spring 2008 collections had a baby. The pieces are really meant for summer- floaty dresses, beautiful color palette, short skirt- really something I would wear.
That’s all I have to say to get me excited. I’ve been happiest (literally) this past week than I have been in the past three months (sad, I know). I must confess, my goal for this season was to get inside the tents. But since I’m practically a nobody I got to stand outside the tents (like the other people, however, a lot of them wanted to see celebrities…I was looking forward to seeing all of the models, editors, and possibly designers..nerd I know). While I did get to work (well “intern”: read work for free) with a PR company at the Carlos Campos an Thuy Shows (all fab by the way), I didn’t get to go inside..they were all offsite.
I must say, all of my favorite designers in one arena got me all excited. My most fave shows this season must be: Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Betsey Johnson, and Anna Sui.
So…this is why I love Anna Sui:
1. Knows how to tell people off. According to WWD:
“Don’t mess with Anna Sui. As her many fans and friends know, the designer is one tough chick, and she proved it at her show Monday by taking the law into her own hands. In each goodie bag, her guests found T-shirts emblazoned with “Forever Wanted: Don Cassidy & The Sundance Jin, Reward $21,000,” around a caricature of Don and Jin Chang, the owners of retailer Forever 21, which Sui is suing for copyright infringement. The bottom of the T reads “‘Thou shalt not steal’; Exodus 20:15,” a reference to the Changs’ devout Christianity and the “John 3:16″ that is printed on every Forever 21 shopping bag. “I thought it would be funny,” the designer said backstage after her show. “I can’t really talk about it because I am in litigation, so that was my statement.”In April, Sui filed a copyright lawsuit against the retailer alleging it has been making an ongoing practice of copying her designs since late 2005. Other brands that are similarly taking action against Forever 21 are Diane von Furstenberg and Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers line.”

Now don’t get me wrong…I love Forever 21 but I’m not down for their copying. I like the designer look for less but not when you copy down to a science. That’s just not cool. Why, then, have a store if you can not create your own designs and products.
2. Her SS08 show was absolutely amazing. I love the 1970s/80s, punk rock, old school New York vibe. This is something that will never die. it might go away but I know the inspirations will definitely come back…who doesn’t love New York in the 70s/80s. It was such a cool time (minus the drugs, etc..). The show opened with top model Agyness Deyn (who is very lovely for I met her outside the tents…so I guess this is a bit biased because I do LOVE this girl..)
