Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Beauty: Prism by Anna Laub SS2013

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Looking for a smooth evolution from resort to spring, Prism’s designer Anna Laub was inspired by natural material, textures, crystals and oxidized metals.

Makeup was done by Sisley Cosmetics, who created a very nude look - something appropriate for the beach but with a cool twist: the models sported colored lashes. Makeup artists applied white mascara primer and lash extensions towards the end to make it a bit longer. On the eyes they applied four different eyeshadows to complement the nails and outfits in the collection: a pretty coral, mix between a jungle green and mint green, cobalt blue, and a soft pink. The cheeks were flushed, giving the girls a sunkissed, “I’ve-been-at-the-beach-all-day” look.

Keeping the brand’s signature aesthetic of clean lines and solid block colors top of mind, Haven Spa matched nail shades to every swimsuit. The spa’s nail team gave each model perfectly groomed nails that were topped of with one of four essie polishes: “Smooth Sailing,” “Tart Deco,” “Turquoise and Caicos” and “Steel-ing the Scene.” A matte top coat was added over “Smooth Sailing” to dull down the sparkle a bit, keeping the focus on the clothes.

Antonio Corral Calero of Moroccanoil created two looks - the theme was big, sexy, and reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour.

quick post: how to rock denim shorts…

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

so Coachella was this past weekend and while I didn’t get to go (womp), I did make it a point to catch up with videos on YouTube and street style photos to get inspired. At 106 degrees, the desert home to Coachella is just one place for me to get summer style inspiration. One summer piece I can’t wait to rock is the ubiquitous denim shorts. They’re perfect! I never realized just how versatile they were until I spotted a few looks from the weekend as well as pics of celebs out and about.

Rock & Republic Thorn Mesh Tank, Rock & Republic Bonnaroo Frayed Denim Shorts, Rock & Republic T-Strap Sandals

The easiest, most carefree way to rock denim shorts is the laid back method. Throw on a tank top and pair it with beachy sandals and you’re out the door!

OR…

Rock & Republic Brushstroke Peasant Top, Rock & Republic Bonnaroo Frayed Denim Shorts, Rock & Republic High Heels

…doll ‘em up with a flowy, feminine top and heels and you’re ready for a summer date night!

What’s your denim short style?

top and leggings: H&M; boots: MIA via piperlime; bracelet: Avon (former client); watch: Juicy Couture (similar); ring: Jewel Mint

Lately, I’ve been so into leather-like bottoms that I spent an entire weekend searching for them. There was the $60 Zara pants that a coworker rocked the hell out of and there was another pair in a random shop in SoHo. In the end, I opted for these in H&M — a total steal at $25! So in love with the fit (skinny but with a bit of stretch) and overall look that I’m considering getting the black version.
