holidays - glam style squad style!

Sunday, November 25, 2012

It’s no secret that I work with Glam from time to time but when they reached out asking if I’d like to be part of their “Style Squad” I said yes simply because I love saying the words “Style” and “Squad”. Call me childish if you like, but it makes me think of a team of people working to make me look damn good. *snaps in a z formation*

First up, is werking it during the holidays. I received a package with a sampling of products (listed below and also all over my Instagram feed) designed to get me through the holidays and beyond if I say so myself. From on-the-go kits to stylish bracelets and bangles to the must-haves in beauty. The Isaac Mizrahi “Fabulous” is a delightful scent that’s light and refreshing but not too sweet.

‘The Fashion Show’ Season Finale Spoiler Alert Pt. 2

Saturday, June 27, 2009

More about “The Fashion Show”…

If you’re just tuning in, I had the chance to be in the audience of the taping of the season finale of ‘The Fashion Show’. Read Part 1 to catch up on what you missed! This is where the designers showcased their collection to the judges and audience before the winner is revealed. I am going to show you, in this post, the work of Merlin, Johnny R., Anna, and Reco.

Merlin: We all know Merlin is over the top, a little kooky, and quite extreme in his designs so I was anticipating something just that. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Was it wearable? No. Was it fantastic? Yes. He was inspired by the 1940′s but wanted to turn it into a futuristic eel. There was a mix of greens and oranges, tulle and metallics.

Johnny R.
Johnny really surprised me. Out of all the designers I walked away remembering his collection as one that I’d actually wear. We’ve seen him struggle throughout the competition and I think this final show proved to the judges that he has actually learned something while on the competition. He was inspired by the punk era and early skinheads. This collection is edgy, young and modern. There were lots of short skirts, blacks, and ripped tights. My one issue with this collection is that it reminds me a little too much of Alexander Wang. That could have been the reason why I loved it so much- I’m a huge Alexander Wang fan. Also one piece from the collection was just totally not for me and I want to say a little coycat-ish. The gorilla arms trend that was on the Fall 09 runways- Dolce & Gabbana, Miss Sixty, Marni, Salvatore Ferragamo- has made its way into Johnny Rodriguez’s collection. ick..I’m not a fan.

My fave look:
Other than those issues…I loved it. Do I think he’ll win? No. Not based off of this collection and when compared to what the other designers have done. This is one of those seen it all before type of shows.

Anna:Anna’s collection was inspired by the painting “Garden of Earthly Delights” by Bosch. She said seeing the painting made her “happy” and so she just wanted something that would reflect that mood.

I won’t lie, at first I thought it was just a wee bit boring but towards the end…WOW. There are a mix of knits and metallic. This collection would best be described as womanly.

Reco:
Reco is my favorite because o his attitude and his love for glamour. Watching his collection, part of me expected more. Was it beautiful? Hell Yes. Would I wear it (if I could afford it)? Hell Yes! But I feel that some of the designers blew it out of the ballpark. I really feel that he could be in final 2 designers but..

Ladies and gents’…I present a future wedding dress (if I can’t afford the one I really really want by Reem Acra)..haha..

All right that concludes Part 2!! Part 3 will be up soon…stay tuned!

‘The Fashion Show’ Season Finale Spoiler Alert Pt. 1

Saturday, June 27, 2009

If you’re like me than every Thursday night you’re glued in front of your TV watching “The Fashion Show” on Bravo munching on Doritos while Twittering away. (Ok the Doritos are optional but I love those!!) In the beginning, I won’t lie, I was quite skeptical of The Fashion Show. I’m a die hard Project Runway devotee and I thought that TFS was just a copycat.

I was wrong…kind of. The premise of the two are the same: 1) wannabe designers compete for money to become real designers, 2) they’re judged by fashion forward people (TFS: Isaac & Kelly, though I’m trying to figure out how Kelly Rowland is considered in the fashion world… and in PR it’s Heidi and Tim Gunn), and 3) there is a final show where the contestants get to showcase their work before ultimately finding out who wins.

But TFS is different because America will choose who the winner is. Exciting, non??

Even more exciting is the fact that yours truly got to attend the final runway show for TFS!!! I was just excited to be there..probably as excited as last year when I attended the final for Project Runway when Christian won (you can check out that post with pictures here).

On the runway were the last remaining designers from Thursday’s episode- Merlin, Reco, Daniella, Johnny R., Anna, and James-Paul. I didn’t know what to expect and I went in rooting for Reco all the way. My mind was blown! And not just by Reco (of course) but by other designers who I have already decided wouldn’t make it. I think I’m wrong and I’ll admit it (hangs head). Each designer presented 10 looks and had to give their take on what inspired them. By the time this airs on July 16th I think only those remaining will be shown on the last episode…so I’m giving you the insider here! haha so full of myself!

Also this is going to be a multi-part post, primarily because I was going picture crazy and there’s so much to tell! I don’t want your eyes hurting you while reading haha.

So without further adieu, here is, The Fashion Show (soo trying to be like Isaac here!)
The guest judge for the final show is Betsey Johnson…as in THE Betsey Johnson. I was internally FREAKING OUT because I’m probably Betsey’s biggest fan. And I sat four rows behind her. Yup…I’m sooo telling this to my kids and grandkids to come.

(UPDATE):: The guest judge is actually Glenda Bailey Editor in Chief of Harper’s Bazaar. Betsey Johnson was just a guest.

So maybe I wasn’t only internally freaking out as I Twittered about it. A lot.

Yeah…way to keep your composer, huh??

Kelly Rowland looked fab in a purple dress with tiered ruffles on the bottom and silver straps. Yes, she’s just as gorgeous in person as she looks in television.

In attendance were a slew of Bravo TV stars including the cast of Real Housewives of New York AND New Jersey causing the photographers to go NUTS!! As well as the kids of NYC Prep, including Kelli.

Stay tuned for Part 2 and 3!!!

The Fashion Show Week 8 and Get the Look!

Saturday, June 27, 2009

Oooooh giiirrllll

This week could have possibly been my favorite episode to date! There are only seven designers left and the judges are not playing around anymore! This week’s episode was a test of skill and knowledge. The Harper’s Bazaar mini challenge for the week tested the designer’s knowledge of fashion history. They were quizzed on seven muy importante designers and the weird thing was I knew all but one of the answers (hey, I’m not big on Pucci ok.. ha) while Reco..sweet sweet Reco…didn’t know who Halston was. I know!!! How are you a fashion designer and you don’t know who HALSTON was. smh

Schoolteacher Anna won and got to pick a legendary designer for each contestant to recreate while at the same timekeeping their own mark on the garment.

dun dun dun

At eliminations, Haven and Reco found themselves in the bottom two. I was a mess…I’m rootin’ for Reco! Reco’s ignorance of not knowing who Halston was could have cost him the competition. The only thing he got right about his design was the color (red).

Please note kids: Halston did NOT do corsets.

Haven, on the other hand, had a strong grasp of Yves Saint Laurent’s history but judges found her brown suit lacking in inspiration. And that sent her packing.

The audience absolutely adored Daniella’s Christian Dior-inspired pantsuit but it was Johnny’s show-stopping Versace-esque dress (left) that stole guest judge Peter Som’s heart. Judges praised Johnny on creating a flawless look from the polished pony to the gold stilettos and named him the challenge winner. I say kudos to the matte pink lipstick!

As always…onto the ‘do! TRESemmé has really been doin’ it up this season on The Fashion Show. The hairstyles for each model works beautifully with the outfits. No doubt the sleek high ponytail made the dress look that more edgy.

Jeanie Syfu created a sexy, polished pony for Johnny’s Versace inspired dress
• Apply TRESemmé Thermal Creations Straightening Gel to wet hair, and
blow dry using a flat brush.

• Lightly spray dried hair with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray, and flat iron.

• Make a side part. Take a triangle section from the front part and clip to the side.

• Pull back remaining hair into a sleek ponytail right below the crown. Secure with elastic.

• Release triangle section and create a side sweep, brushing along the front hairline. Secure remaining hair with a pin, and hold with TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray.

There are only a few more episodes left! Watch with me- The Fashion Show is on Thursdays at 10/9c on BRAVO. Of course, I’ll be tweeting away on Twitter during the show. The Fashion Show: Week 4 recap and Get the Look!

Saturday, May 30, 2009

I know, I know, I totally skipped out on the recap for last week, so my apologies. On with the show…

So teams are officially dunzo on The Fashion Show. Thank God. I really want to see what these designers are capable of on their own. In Thursday’s episode, the designers were instructed to make an outfit based on a single pair of fabulous shoes of their choice.

Sounds like what I do on a daily basis. Hello, Bravo…I base my outfits on my shoes everyday!

The only difference between them and me (other than the fact that I buy my clothes rather than make ‘em) is that I’m picking from my Aldo and Bakers shoes, whereas the designers got to pick from Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin.

Inspiration, for real.

Keith chose a pair of floral and black Valentino wedges to create a pink organza and black, knee-length dress. Daniella used her strappy Alexander McQueen peep-toe heels to help create an edgy, black leather, fitted garment with purple lace at the top.

I would totally rock this dress. Just sayin’…

After the catwalk, the audience picked their top three favorite looks designed- Reco, Daniella and Angel. The guest judge this week was George Malkemus, President of Manolo Blahnik (I die), who loved Reco’s strapless, mini-bubble dress coupled with a pair of fashion-forward, YSL cage boots (probably THE most coveted shoe of the year). So naturally, he won and poor Lidia and Andrew found themselves in the bottom two. Unfortunately, Andrew’s uninspired, A-line silhouette left the judges bored, and he was sent home

Get the look that Jeanie Syfu created!!!

• Apply TRESemmé Thermal Creations Straightening Gel throughout damp hair, and blow dry straight, concentrating on the hairline.

• Brush hair to one side, and secure with an elastic right above the ear. I love Goody Ouchless Elastics because they don’t have metal on them so it doesn’t snag my hair. And it’s super cheap.

• Gently distribute TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray onto the ponytail, and tease for added fullness. Pull forward, pinning at the base in front of the ear.

• Lightly brush the surface to smooth any stray hairs, tucking them under the bun and secure with pins. Keep the look in place with TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray.

Watch with me- The Fashion Show is on Thursdays at 10/9c on BRAVO. I normally have my live Twitter sessions where you can hear me rant about who won/lost/what were they doing, all while the show is going on lol.
