For her Spring 2016 collection, designer Karen Walker was inspired by life in the SovietnUnion’s secret training base- Zvezdny Gorodok a.k.a Star City.
“Karen was fascinated the Star City’s juxtaposition of traditional Russian folksiness and highly advanced space technology, the sense of heroism that was at its very heart and the glamour that it effused.”
As luck would have it, manicurist Jin Soon had a polish color that was a match made in heaven for this collection.
“She [Karen Walker] wanted me to highlight her sense of understated glamour and functionality so I decided to use this muted metallic gold. This color [Cachet] - this metallic gold you can use it all season - no matter it it’s fall, spring, winter. It’s going to act more like a beautiful nude,” Jin told me backstage.
To start Jin used JINsoon Power Coat base coat to protect the nails. She then applied two coats of JINsoon Cachet (releasing in October as part of a set. Details to come!). She finished with JINsoon Top Gloss top coat. Cachet is part of Jin’s upcoming set to be released this October (sneak peek below!)

At hair, Laurent Philippon gave the rundown including ANOTHER sneak peek at a new product to be released in 2016.
“I wanted to give it kind of a boyish and military look. It’s rolled from one side and it goes to the other side. There’s kind of an architecture to it. It’s cool. It looks effortless. It’s textured,” he said.
“We’re separating the hair with the help of [bumble’s] Thickening Spray. I hate baby hair. To get rid of baby hair, I use Thickening Spray. Then, we’re spraying a new spray that’s coming out in April. It’s a foam spray that’s part of the Surf family. It’s magical. It’s instant texture. You just spray it on and just dry it on without a brush. Hand dry with a blow dryer and you get that saltiness but with hold.”
He continued, “It’s very malleable. You have that warm and dry texture which I love. Then we dry the hair and we backcomb it. Next, we roll the hair and that’s what makes it look like it has an undercut — it has that silhouette of an undercut.”
