*new* make up for ever hd blush &pressed powder

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

If you’ve fallen in love with Make Up For Ever’s HD range, you need to check out their new HD Blushes.
make up for ever hd blushThe HD Blush ($26) melts when applied to skin and provides a natural looking flush of color. While I may not be in front of HD cameras in my day-to-day, I appreciate that my blush won’t look patchy. It’s formulated with silicone oils, dry oils and waxes allows you to blend while the silica powders and synthetic mica provide a smooth texture that delivers a satin finish. There are 16 shades in the cream blush range so there’s most definitely something for everyone. I’ve been wearing shade 215 (Flamingo Pink) and it’s the perfect barely there pink.

Also new the the brand’s lineup is the HD Pressed Powder, $36. The HD Pressed Powder is a talc-free, silky, lightweight finishing powder that offers the same benefit of the brand’s HD micro finish loose powder, but is molded down into a purse friendly compact. No loose powders spilling in your purse, yay! Although it’s powder white in the pan, it didn’t come off as grey or ashy on my skin when applied. HD Pressed Powder is used to help soften the appearance of fine lines and pores while creating a soft focus effect on the skin.

The new MUFE products are available in Sephora, Sephora.com, and MUFE Boutiques.

make up for ever: foundation nation

Friday, September 27, 2013

So when it comes to beauty products, I have two great loves: foundation and lipsticks. (Okay I’m throwing in blush so that makes three, whatever). On any given day, I’m testing out a new foundation o swatching something at a counter to see if it’s my perfect match - or should I say “perfect” match. They can be either too pink, too red, too yellow, too dark, not matte enough — you name it! I know I’m not the only one who has trouble finding the right match - the end all, be all, elusive Holy Grail us beauty junkies clamor over.

MAKE UP FOR EVER commissioned a study from The NPD Group to find out why women are missing the mark when it comes to complexion perfection. The survey found:

  • 72% of women DO NOT change their foundation seasonally (I don’t know who these women are since mine changes weekly ;)…)
  • 62% of women had difficulty applying foundation (only 20% of women use a brush to apply their foundation)
  • 54% of women say finding the right shade is the most difficult (SO surprised this number isn’t higher)

To help us out, MUFE is hosting free Foundation Nation events nationwide to help women learn to solve their biggest challenge, whatever it may be. Simply visit a MAKE UP FOR EVER boutique (or Sephora) where their professional artists will be on-hand for complimentary foundation lessons.

I will be putting the artists at the MUFE NYC boutique to the test since I want slash need a foundation that can even out my skin tone AND deal with the oil production factory that is my face.

holiday how to: applying faux lashes like a pro

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

While I like to think that I go through life knowing everything, I don’t. I’ve spoken to my ego and she’s fully aware. Faux lash application and super glittery eye makeup fall under this category and I’m working on it.

Last week MAKE UP FOREVER celebrated the holiday season at the Style Coalition Lounge and I got to meet with the artists, schmooze over signature cocktails like the Rouge Artist (Veuve Clicquot and Chambord with raspberry garnish), nom on yummy cupcakes, and meet Gala of Gala Darling whose blog I adore!

MAKE UP FOR EVER artists Jessie Powers and Lijha Stewart were on deck to provide makeup touch ups and tips on how to perfect your holiday look. Lijha sat down with me to help me learn once and for all how to apply false lashes like a boss pro. My eye area is pretty sensitive and after a situation where my eyes became swollen from God knows what, I’m extremely careful of what makeup I apply (lashes included). Plus I’m a klutz.

sweater and skirt from H&M
As she applied the lashes, Lijha walked me through giving me tips along the way to help against teary eyes and keeping the lashes along the lash line and not on my lid (it’s happened before). Here are the tips!

  1. Carefully remove the lashes from their packaging and gently press the strip onto your lash line to check their length against your eye. Most lashes will need a little trimming to fit. If your lashes need to be trimmed, use small nail/grooming scissors and cut excess lash from the outer corner of the lash strip, but depending on the style of the lash you may choose to trim a bit from the inner corner as well.
  2. Prior to applying the faux lashes, gently curl your natural lashes and apply a very sheer coat of mascara at the base of your lashes.
  3. Apply a thin bead of lash glue along the entire band of one of the lashes. If the lash glue doesn’t come with an applicator you can use the end of a make up brush as a glue applicator. Allow the glue to get tacky before applying the lash – about 60 seconds.
  4. To apply the lashes, grasp the ends of the hair in the center of the lash. Tilt your head back so you can see the base of your lash line then place the lash strip at the very base of your natural lashes. Before pressing the lash into place firmly, you may need to work it down further into the lash base. It is generally easier to connect the faux lash to the center of the lash line then press the inner and outer corners into place. Use the end of a make up brush or the blunt end of a pair of tweezers to press down areas of the faux lash firmly.
  5. As the lash glue continues to dry you may continue to shape how the lash rests on your lashes by either pushing from underneath to make the lash stand up and curl or by pushing down from above to flatten the lash.
  6. Once the glue is dry, apply another sheer coat of mascara just to blend the natural lashes with the faux lashes.

POW! How you like me now?

Thanks Style Coalition for the pics!

Behind the Scenes at The Makeup Show NYC

Sunday, May 17, 2009

Yesterday, myself and a couple of other fab beauty bloggers had the honor and pleasure of getting the behind the scenes look at The Makeup Show NYC presented by The Powder Group and Metropolitan Pavilion.

The Makeup Show NYC officially starts today (May 17) and goes until tomorrow (May 18) and brings the beauty industry together like no other trade event. I’ve posted about it before and to see what goes on before the actual day of was pretty exciting.

The event started with an intro by The Powder Group founder Michael DeVellis (which I missed…sad face…stupid NYC transit) but I came just in time to listen to makeup artist super genius James Vincent and receive a walk through of the venue. While walking through the entire space, James introduced us to many of the participating brands.

In attendance were, of course, some of my all time favorite brands…Becca Cosmetics, Stila (holla…they’re back!!), MAC, Make Up For Ever and Mario Badescu (check out my life changing experience with Mario Badescu skincare).

Stila’s Summer 2009 Collection (Indian Summer)…includes 24 Karat Gold!!!

There were also brands that I’ve heard of due to my late night YouTube obsession including Mehron and Kryolan- two brands that YouTube fave xsparkage have used in the past.

But, I was also introduced to some new brands that I just can’t wait to get my hands on- I’m talking to you Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics!!! Apparently their Lip Tar is grabbing major attention and ya’ll know, where there’s a lipgloss, there’s MissWhoever You Are! (hmm…catchy…that should be my new slogan..haha)

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics’ Lip Tar…sorry for the blurryness

Pigments from Naked Cosmetics…another brand I’m dying after!

I also got to meet some of my absolute favorite bloggers- Brit from Clumps of Mascara and Kia from Yummy 411. These girls are, like, major so I was super excited (kinda nervous) to meet them in “real” life.

The Makeup Show is a must-attend event for anyone involved in the makeup industry. It’s two whole days of inspiration, education and community building. Tickets are still available at the door:
One Day Ticket $65 - Tax is not included
Two Day Ticket $85 - Tax is not included

The Makeup Show New York 2009

Let’s Play Dress Up…

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

You know you want to. Heck, I do every year. With Halloween a mere 23 days away, I can’t help but wonder what I’m going to be this year.

Lies.

I know exactly what I want to be and I have known for the past year.

Pathetic, I know.

Ever since I saw this picture of Allison Sarofim at her Hallowween party last year i have been thinking of replicating this outfit.

Crazy right?

She looks gorgeous and hell why not…did you check out her lashes??? I’m guessing I could use some MakeUp Forever Falsies in #116. As well as massive amounts of peacock feathers.

Being that I have no idea where to get a billion faux peacock feathers, I’ll just have to get the look for less by visiting Halloween Costume Stores. HalloweenAdventures.com is really cool and has some awesome costumes. They have excellent varieties and not just your average “devil” or “sexy” outfit- though thos DO exist on the site if that’s your thing. Not to mention they have quick and easy returns AND free Shipping on orders over $60 until 10/10/08.
And considering that your costume will probably be $60+…why not. But be quick- I already saw “sold out” signs in some costumes.

I did find this peacock outfit and while it is a less sexy more cute version of my ideal costume…it would work for a last minute thing.

Ok minus the hat.
