You’ve no doubt seen it on the blogs but now it’s official (I mean, because, my post totally makes things offish y’see?). Cosmetics giant, M∙A∙C Cosmetics, has partnered up with nine beauty bloggers for a very small but cute collection, aptly titled, Bloggers Obsessions.
No one <3’s M∙A∙C more than a Beauty Blogger. To thank them for their passionate devotion & always honest feedback, we invited NINE of our favourites to our lab Toronto to custom-create their own Eye Shadow or Lipglass. Exclusively online, just like the makeup-mad minds that created them.
Available in North America only (sorry international readers!) the lipglass/ eyeshadow combo offers a bit to whet your appetite. Will this program be ongoing? One can only hope. I’m proud to call a few of these women homies (hey Patrice, Karen, Amber and Lianne!). Kudos to M∙A∙C for realizing the influence of those behind the screen, pouring their hearts and energy into witty, insightful and often hilarious posts. Congrats gals!

Ladies as we speak, I’m recovering from wisdom teeth extraction when I realized that there are only a couple of more days left in the Beauty Bloggers auction!
If you remember, I spoke briefly about it here but with only a couple of more days I wanted to ensure you guys got the full scoop.
Led by the amazing Karla Sugar, a few beauty bloggers (including yours truly) and brands gathered together for a single cause- raising money for Doctors Without Borders. The result? BeautyBloggers.org - a site where a few of the most coveted beauty items are being auctioned off all benefiting Doctors Without Borders. Doctors Without Borders is a non-profit that offers volunteer medical care to those in need around the world - something that actually hits close to home as there are several volunteers currently in Haiti.
There are more than 40 brands and bloggers participating and it runs through December 20th at 5pm CST. So that means you have exactly five more days to get clicking knowing that you’re not only going to get something pretty amazing, but you’re gong to be dong your part as a global citizen and helping an organization devoted to helping others.
Head on over to BeautyBloggers.org to bid. Happy holidays! Please don’t forget that you can still help the people of Haiti, donate to the Red Cross today. Thank you.
It’s no secret that I love anything (and everything) British. I love the culture, the country and, yes, the accent! There’s just an undeniable cool factor about those across the pond. UK- based beauty blogger Zoe of Zoella.com radiates that sense of cool with her honest beauty reviews, amazing makeup skills and a beautiful head of luscious hair. With over 2,000 blog followers, she is never afraid to tell it like it is. Read on to find out how she got started and what her number one beauty tip is!
Tell us a bit about yourself. I’m Zoe, I’m almost 20 years old & I enjoy makeup & beauty way too much!
How long have you been doing blogging? I’ve been blogging since February of this year
What got you started? I got into YouTube makeup videos years ago, watching guru’s who have made it really big now. (Panacea81 to name one) & knew I wanted to talk about makeup etc but was very camera shy, & when I noticed a few of them had blogs where they could post swatches, review things, talk about their favourite makeup items, I decided one rainy day to sit down and make one. I didn’t actually believe anyone would be interested in what I wrote, but it was nice to have somewhere I could escape.
When did you become interested in cosmetics and beauty products? I started wearing makeup when I was about 14/15 but I never got properly into it until I was about 17. I used to admire the fact that when done so beautifully, you could feel so much more confident with makeup on covering a few personal “flaws”, things that nobody else would pick up on but that you would feel self conscious about (like a spot, or a blemish).
What are a few of your makeup “obsessions” right now? A little makeup obsession I have at the moment is setting my concealer with a mineral concealer. I find it makes it last 2x longer and also makes it appear more flawless. Although I haven’t actually blogged about this yet haha. I also love all things mineral at the moment. You cannot go wrong with minerals.
Do you ever have buyer’s remorse for spending your hard earned money on products? Haha, sometimes I do! Especially when friends come over and go through my makeup collection and ask “how much would this have all cost?” with a look of horror on their faces. Although, I just think, everyone has a hobby, or something they like to spend their money on. My brother’s is Xbox games, some people collect DVD’s. Mine is just another hobby, which I can benefit looking better from!
What do you carry everyday in your everyday makeup bag? I will usually carry an undereye concealer, a lip salve of some sort, a lipstick (or 2…or 3), a lip gloss, an eyeliner, and possibly a blush & blush brush. It depends on how far I’m going and for how long. If it’s overnight I tend to take half my makeup collection.
What are some non makeup related hobbies of yours? I love Photography & Fashion. I live in a very picturesque village & photo opportunities come up all the time, but the photos I mainly like taking are abstract or fashion related. I don’t really know if I can class fashion as a hobby as most girls like studying it! I also like making & being creative. Recently I have started making little floral headbands, which I plan on selling on my blog in the new year.
Do your friends and family know about your blog?? If so, what do they think? Yes they do. I don’t think they are all that bothered if I’m honest. My brother’s friends find it more fascinating than he does. If I get all excited about how many followers I have, they just think I’m strange! But they do appreciate that it’s something fun to do, and found it exciting when I went off to events. There are a lot of friends that are excited by my blog though, and check up on it regularly though.
What’s your number one beauty tip? Get the perfect base. If you know which foundation works best for you, and you are perfectly matched, you can’t do much else wrong. I see so many girls with orange face, white neck syndrome… and sometimes even the other way round, and it just makes me so frustrated. There are beauty consultants at makeup counters for a reason, and this is to make sure you get the best out of your skin. They don’t charge you for matching you with a foundation, and if you are unsure whether to buy it or not, always ask for a sample. Unless of course you like the orange faced look!
Name your Holy Grail (absolute must have), brand and shade
Lipgloss/ lipstick - Mac Lipstick- Hue, a gorgeous pinky nude colour
Mascara-Lancôme Hypnôse- To this day I have never come across anything that makes my lashes look so fluttery
Eyeshadow- NARS eyeshadows are my absolute favourite. They are very pigmented and easy to blend
Face product (foundation/pressed powder/ etc.)- Bare Escentuals is my absolute Holy Grail foundation!
Your hair is so long and beautiful! What products do you use to keep it so lush? I like to experiment with different shampoos and conditioners, so I am never consistent when it comes to that, although I do swear by a lotion, serum or cream before blow drying or straightening. I think that my hair has stayed relatively healthy at the ends because of this. I also don’t like to over wash my hair.
Do you have any future goals for your blog? No, not really. I just hope that people continue to read it & enjoy reading it. I love that I can help so many girls when deciding on what to buy, or with problems they may be having with particular things. It’s also a great way to make friends, I have met a few amazing girls through blogging and events & I can happily say I consider them to be very close friends of mine now, which I never expected! Ultimately I suppose I would love for someone to approach me and say, “Hey Zoe, how about we make your own brand of makeup?” but I know that this will never happen! haha.
While tweeting on the bus ride home, I received a DM (Direct Message for you non-Twitter folks) from my girl Kristin over at Fashion.Style.Beauty saying that she has given me a Kreativ Blogger award.
I nearly cried on the bus! Ok…not really…BUT I am flattered and honored because out of the squillions of other blogs out there, she chose me (and six other folks as per the rules). So here’s the deal, when one of us receives the award we have to do the following:
1. List 7 things that you don’t already know about me. 2. Name 7 other blogs to receive this award. 3. Leave a comment on each of the blogs I nominated 4. Thank the person who gave you the award.
The whole seven things you don’t know about me shindig is pretty hard since I live my life so publicly (have you followed me on Twitter??? ’nuff said) but I will try my best. Let’s get started shall we??
1. I love to eat food. Like seriously. I don’t know how I stay so small because I’m constantly eating throughout the day. Whatever it is I’m lovin’ it
2. This is cheating because some of you know this already but whatever, I’ll say it again because I love it so much: this past semester I’ve been interning at Lancôme. It’s one of the best experiences ever and I really really don’t want it to end. I got to learn a lot of what goes into PR (which is what I’m studying) and the beauty industry as a whole.
My prom date and I. He looked pretty fly too. I made him wear a white tux. Boss. haha
3. I still think I was the the best dressed at my high scool prom. Hands down. I went to a Catholic school so having prom king/queen, best dressed, etc. was out of the question (wasn’t “fair”) so I say it my darn self. The hair was inspired by a picture of Christina Milian and the dress was highlighter orange. I loved every minute of it.
4. I can’t cook to save my life. I know how to make the basics (mac n cheese, spaghetti, white rice…a wicked bowl of cereal…) but when it comes to preparing a full fledged meal, I freak out. I bought cookbooks but it’s nothing like the food I grew up eating. I need to get on that because I want to move out of my mom’s house after graduation and I know I can’t live off of Easy Mac for the rest of my life.
5. I’m moving to Paris. After visiting two weeks ago, I’ve made the decision to move there. I don’t know when (I’ll have to save up money) but I do know I want to live there for at least six months.
6. I have a pretty potty mouth and a hot temper. I’ve calmed down on my cussin’ because that’s not ladylike but I’m still hot headed. It doesn’t take much to set me off (which is bad). I’ve been using the “3..2..1. 1…2..3..what the heck is bothering me?” mantra ever since I saw it on Family Matters eons ago. Instead it makes me laugh which then calms me down. Just don’t ever get on my bad side and we’ll be bff.
7. I absolutely HATE taking pictures. I’m a pretty awkward person and put me in front of a lens and I just look insane. I used to enjoy it but then I got braces and now whenever I smile the flash reflects off the brackets and I get that PING! effect (where there’s a flash of light coming out of my mouth hahaha). Also, I’m forever shiny, or I look pissed, or a whole other host of disasters. I’m working on this but I don’t expect it to change until these metal clunkers make their exit.
And now I pass this lovely award on over to these 7 lovely bloggers:
