My Top 5 Go To Red Lipsticks

Monday, August 8, 2011

Ever since I mustered up the courage to wear red lipstick, there’s absolutely NO stopping me! There’s something magnetic about a red lip - whether it’s a bright cherry red or deep wine. It instantly polishes up your look and turns any outfit into a WOW. Below check out my top five must have reds that take you from summer to winter and back again.

1. Bite High Pigment Matte Pencil in Pomegranate, $24
I love a good pencil since it’s just about the easiest way to apply a lip color. This deep red applies smoothly and has MAYJOR lasting power.
2. Yves Saint Laurent ROUGE PUR COUTURE SPF15 Pure Colour Satiny Radiance in Le Rouge, $30
Another slightly deep red color that provides deep pigmentation without bleeding or feathering. Although on the expensive side, I love wearing this when I feel like dressing up.
3. Revlon Super Lustrous - Creme Lipstick, Fire & Ice, $7.99
CLASSIC! This is a BRIGHT red that is definitely not for the shy. I absoultely love the way it looks on dark skin and have gone through two tubes within the last three months (no easy feat!). Since it is a brighter red, I keep all of the focus on my lips by keeping my face bare (foundation, mascara and lips) paired with a crisp white tee and jeans.
4. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl, $24
The one that started it all. When I was easing into the whole red lips territory, I purchased Dragon Girl after haring rave reviews. A little on the bright side (through not like Revlon’s above) this lasts through breakfast and lunch with perhaps a reapplication during the evening.
5. IMAN Luxury Moisturizing Lipstick, Iman Red 005 $8.99
Anything with the name IMAN on it has me hooked. This provides a pop of color since it’s neither cherry red or deep wine. I apply in the morning and by midday I’m left with what looks like a stain (perfect since I can just add a bit of clear gloss for a wuick pick me up and refresh).

Hit or Miss: Solange Knowles Spins at TAO Beach

Monday, June 14, 2010

Over the weekend the wildly talented and oh, so beautiful Solange Knowles was spotted DJing at TAO Beach in Las Vegas. I love Solange’s style because she’s original with it and doesn’t give two damns what everyone thinks (see when she cut her hair and the internet went wild).

Knowles wore the colorful Tam Tam dress from Boxing Kitten’s Resort 2010 Collection paired with YSL Tribute Platforms while entertaining the crowd.

What say you? Is this a Hit or a Miss? I say she werked it *snaps*!

Paris Fashion Week: Yves Saint Laurent

Thursday, March 11, 2010

If it were up to the Parisiennes, this fall our hair would be slicked back. Whether you embrace this trend or not, I beg you to give Guido’s couth chignon a try.

Carla Gebhart, Photo credit: style.com

Inspired by the refined, modern, elegant and bourgeois French woman, Guido created a rather stylized and sophisticated chignon with lacquered look around the front hair line. “At Yves Saint Laurent, we took a classic chignon and modernized it for this house,” says the hairstylist. “The key was using Redken hardwear 16 super strong gel along the hairline to give it that lacquered effect.”

Guido at work

He started by pulling hair into a low ponytail, keeping the sides smooth. Next he wrapped the hair in upon itself to create a flat chignon and secured with. To hold the hair, he used Redken’s forceful 23 super strength finishing spray.

Along the front portion of the hairline, he applied hardwear 16 super strong gel from the hairline to about 3 inches back. the look was finished off with forceful 23 to get that lacquered style.

YSL Spring 2010 Collection

Monday, January 4, 2010

It’s hard to believe that we’re already looking at the Spring makeup collections but they’re here! While you sip the winter blue’s away in this morning’s cup of hot chocolate, take a moment to look at Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2010 makeup collection.

This season the YSL woman represents allure and passion. She is Faubourg St Honoré chic, an enigma of contrasts: intimate, sensual and decadent. She is forever… PARIS.

Limited Edition Y-Mail Complexion Palette

The star of this collection, in my opinion, is the new and totally limited edition face palette. A collector’s item for sure, it was inspired by the YSL Y-MAIL Handbag Collection and comes in its very own YSL “handbag”. Très chic!

Available in two shades: #1 highlights the face with three light pearly shades and #2 highlights the complexion with three luminous silky shades. I’m personally lemming after #2.

Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my face…

Ombres 5 Lumières (5 Colour Eyeshadow)

A new interpretation of the Yves Saint Laurent palette, this baby contains four matte, satiny or iridescent eyeshadow shades, all coordinated around a single colour theme.

Ombres Duolumières (Eyeshadow Duo)

A reflection of Yves Saint Laurent’s spirit, the colours are both luminous and radiant. The duos contain soft powders that are vibrant in color and elegant in spirit. There are two new shades for spring, #25 Turquoise Blue – Hazy Violet, and #27 Golden Pink - Precious Bronze (both pictured in the insets)

Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Lipstick

I purchased my first YSL Rouge Volupté lipstick during their first ever Family and Friends event last month. I foresee at least two more purchases from their Spring 2010 as well ;) . The luxurious and lush outer packaging reveals a creamy lipstick that leaves your lips feeling soft yet glossy and irresistible. The gold metallic case contains a mirror on top for quick and easy touch ups throughout the day and an intricate carving of the Yves Saint Laurent logo to reveal the shade. There are four new shades in the spring collection: #27 Rose Paris, #28 Beaubourb Brown, #29 Opera Rose (my fave), #30 Faubourg Peach (another fave)

Gloss Volupté Sheer Gloss Stick

YSL’s first gloss stick combines the femininity and sensuality of a lipstick with the comfort and shine of a gloss. I really want to test out this gloss stick because I’m a product of the 90s and gloss is my middle name! YSL’s colorshine complex and Candellila resin result in a transparent, non sticky shine and fluid silicones and melting microcrystalline waxes, leaves lips feeling silky. Pomegranate extract and a delicate Mango fragrance provide a delicious touch of freshness. Available in 4 new transparent, mouth-watering shades for spring.

Golden Gloss Shimmering Lip Gloss

The gloss forms a mirror-effect on the lips which sparkles with mother-of-pearl. A complex of nourishing oils (Nigelle and Cameline Oils) protects the lips while providing total comfort. Luxurious is the game as this gloss contains 0,2‰ of 24 carats gold!

La Laque Long Lasting Nail Lacquer

A nail lacquer that is both elegant and practical in its elongated glass bottle. Available in two soft new limited edition shades.

Mascara Singulier Exaggerated Lashes Dramatic Styling

A unique innovation by Yves Saint Laurent, the mascara brush combines the technology of a traditional brush with the structure of a moulded brush, to increase the performance of the formula. Volumizing micro-spheres thicken the lashes, with Pro-vitamin B5 to protect, nourish, and reinforce of the lashes’ structure. Like hair extensions, nylon micro-fibres extend the lashes. A high performance “curling wax” helps style the lashes for an ideal curve.

Teint Resist Long Wear Transfer Resistant Foundation

The latest foundation to join the YSL family, Teint Resist guarantees unfailing wear and radiance for up to 14 hours. I haven’t tried it out yet but I’m curious to see if it really holds its promise to 14 hour wear. If they have a shade dark enough for me that is…

Skin is promised to feel supple and silky-smooth from the morning through to night. Teint Resist gives the guarantee of an even, smooth and comfortable complexion hour after hour, giving you the confidence to put your best face forward in every circumstance.

YSL’s spring collection is available for pre-order on www.yslbeautyus.com. So tell me ladies, what are you getting??
