Today’s Inspiration: “Adventure is not outside man; it is within.” – George Eliot
Okay, I’m just gonna say it… sometimes Kyle and I fall into the “let’s binge-watch Netflix and order takeout” rut, and while that’s fun, there’s something so refreshing about switching things up and getting out of the house for a bit. And when I say “getting out of the house,” I mean outdoor adventures that don’t involve a theme park. Yes, Orlando has way more to offer than Mickey Mouse. If you’re an adventurous couple like Kyle and I (or at least trying to be), here are a few outdoor date ideas to make you feel like you’re on a mini adventure without leaving the city.

First up, let’s talk about Wekiwa Springs State Park. If you’re looking for an escape to nature, this place is like an outdoor dream. Kyle and I went there a couple of weekends ago, and I swear it felt like we were in a completely different world—away from all the noise and hustle of everyday life. Whether you’re into hiking, canoeing, or just lounging by the water, this place has it all. You can rent a canoe or kayak (I highly recommend it; just don’t flip it over—trust me, we learned that the hard way), or you can explore the miles of trails, where the air smells like fresh pine, and the birds chirp as if they’ve rehearsed their parts. It’s one of those places that makes you feel all zen and “I’m one with nature” for a while, but also lets you hold hands and share a laugh while figuring out how to paddle together (it’s trickier than it looks!).
Another gem Kyle and I love is Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando. I know, I know, you’ve probably been there a million times for lunch or a walk, but hear me out. There’s something so peaceful about grabbing some sandwiches (don’t forget the chips, I’m always that person), a blanket, and heading to the lake for a little picnic date. You can rent a swan boat, paddle around the lake together, and pretend like you’re living your best royal lives. The view of the city skyline is stunning, and it’s just a great way to spend a couple of hours away from everything else. Plus, if you’re lucky, you might see a cute swan or two! (Okay, maybe I’m obsessed with the swans. But really, they’re adorable.)
For a little more adventure (and a little more sweat), check out Black Bear Wilderness Loop Trail. This one is a bit more challenging, but I promise it’s worth it. Kyle and I took this trail a while ago, and I can’t even begin to explain how cool it was to walk through the thick forest, hearing nothing but the rustling leaves and our own footsteps. The trail is about 7 miles, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for something a little more strenuous. We brought some snacks along the way (because you know I’m all about food), took a bunch of pictures of the wildlife, and just enjoyed being outside together. There’s something about hiking through the woods with your partner—sweaty, out of breath, but sharing a moment that’s all your own.
If you’re into a little more thrill, you can’t go wrong with Ziplining at Forever Florida. This is one of those things that you never think you’ll try until someone suggests it, and then you’re like, “Well, let’s just see what happens!” The adrenaline rush is real, and if you’ve never done it, I promise you’ll be laughing, screaming, and holding hands (mostly for dear life) while soaring over the trees. Forever Florida is located about 45 minutes from Orlando, and they’ve got a bunch of different ziplines that will make you feel like you’re flying through the air. We went once, and honestly, I was more nervous than Kyle. But by the end, we were both all smiles, and I think we even high-fived after landing. And then, of course, Kyle made a joke about my “death grip” on the harness. It’s fine, I’m still not over it.
For something a bit more low-key but still beautiful, check out the Harry P. Leu Gardens. This is one of my favorite spots in Orlando for a relaxed, romantic stroll. It’s peaceful, quiet, and just downright gorgeous. Kyle and I went here once, and I swear, it felt like we were the only ones there. The flowers, the trees, and the little fountains make for the most serene environment, and it’s easy to forget you’re even in the middle of a city. If you’re looking for a more chill outdoor date where you don’t have to break a sweat (other than from holding hands while wandering around), this is your spot.
So, whether you’re looking to get a little adrenaline rush or just enjoy the beauty of nature together, Orlando has tons of outdoor date options. Forget about the same old dinner-and-a-movie routine—get outside, try something new, and enjoy the city in a whole new way. Who knows? You might just find your new favorite spot to visit together (and hey, it’s even better when you get to share it with the person you love).
