because sometimes you need a boost

You ever have those time where nothing is working with you - beauty wise? Lately I’ve been breaking out like CRAZY and my hair has been having a meltdown. Not only am I growing my hair from a pixie, but I’m also going natural and ditching the chemical relaxers.

Times like these you need a boost. Ain’t no shame in my game so I’ve been digging into the world of vitamins and supplements. I’ve previously taken Viviscal and Hairfinity, but those are primarily focused on just hair care. I was recently introduced to HUM Nutrition and I am beyond curious.
hum nutrition review
They have 25 different products that are cheekily named yet all have a targeted focus. Seriously — they’ve got you covered whether it’s dealing with energy, mood, skin, nails, etc.

I was gifted samples a few weeks back but too nervous to take them (primarily because the world of supplements freak me out). But after doing a bit of digging and research, I’m ready. The HUM site gives loads of details surrounding their products (clinically proven, non-GMO, etc.) and on Sephora, the reviews speak for themselves. It’s honestly all of the user reviews that give me the confidence to take these! This September, I’m going to be taking several different supplement - so follow my journey!

  • Hum Nutrition Flawless + Fearless™ Supplements ($29) combines two of its most popular formulas— Daily Cleanse and OMG!™—into one product to target breakouts. My skin has been pretty angry lately with new breakouts popping up almost daily. They’re largely hormonal but I’ve been unbelievably stressed lately so I’m excited to give these a go. Daily Cleanse helps detox, cleanse, and get rid of toxins that cause breakouts; while OMG! brightens and even skin tone. Can I get a hallelujah!
  • There’s also the Hum Nutrition Runway Ready™ Supplements ($35) which is geared towards glowing skin, shiny fuller hair and perfect nails. While they don’t promise hair growth, I think this will be helpful as I go through my healthy hair journey. Length is important but healthy hair is more important to me.
  • Lastly, the Uber Energy™ Supplements ($25) piqued my curiosity because I’ve been feeling a bit down lately. Tired, stressed, and overall more anxious. Two key ingredients in this product are L-tyrosine and rhodiola rosea which have been shown in clinical studies to hold off fatigue, increase productivity, and help maintain calm in stressful situations.

I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated (mostly on Twitter so follow me!) throughout the month. Are you familiar with HUM? Have you tried their products? Are there other supplements you take and love? Let me know in the comments!

damaged hair remedies

Months after I’ve colored then relaxed my hair (I know, BAD!), I’m still suffering from damage and breakage. I feel like I’ve literally done everything, and have found a routine that helps. Most importantly, I’ve been trying to repair my hair.

Step one is transitioning from chemical relaxers (chemicals in general) back to my natural hair state. The two textures (kinky and straight) is causing a bit of breakage, so I’m going above and beyond my weekly wash and sets.

ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment (For Professional Use): I’ve heard nothing but great reviews from women who have used this, so I was a bit excited (and nervous). This treatment is formulated with magnesium and proteins which work together to reduce breakage with the use of heat. During the process, ApHogee treatment hardens into the hair while you’re underneath the dryer. Afterwards, you rinse out with the ApHogee Balancing Moisturizer.

Immediately after you use the two step treatment, you must, I repeat MUST use a conditioner. I go for my trusty Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask, a 5-7 minute revitalizing treatment that works best for weak, damaged or color-treated hair. It contains argan oil and protein to strengthen hair. I’ve been using the mask, on and off, for years now and I’m never disappointed,

I first heard of Viviscal through my beauty blogger friends (ahem, Amber!) but took the plunge immediately after I noticed breakage. I was taking the Hair Growth Supplements but decided to truly focus on hair repair. When I heard of their new Hair Repair supplements, the timing couldn’t be better! Viviscal Hair Repair were created specifically for women with “hurt and damaged” hair from heat treatments, chemical treatments, coloring, extensions, poor diet, pollution and stress. Hair Repair features a new formulation that targets damaged and over-styled tresses repairing from within and restoring health and strength. It’s recommended to take them for three months to see results so I’ll be sure to share an update on my progress (I don’t doubt it’s effectiveness since the Hair Growth supplements worked for me, especially my brows haha!)

Last, but not least, on my essentials is a wide tooth comb. Sephora’s Wide Tooth Comb is great since it leaves my hair smooth and knot-free in seconds. I use it when I’m detangling hair post conditioner AND daily when combing my hair (my new growth isn’t a joke!).

Hopefully the breakage will end soon, cuz I’m tired! 😀
