Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week SS2011: Backstage at Marc by Marc Jacobs

Dick Page, Artistic Director for Shiseido, created the bright makeup look that was inspired by the fun, bold Spring 2011 Marc by Marc Jacobs Collection. All makeup is by Shiseido unless otherwise noted.

FACE
For the face, Page wanted “smooth, matte skin” and to do so he started off by applying a light wash of Shiseido’s Makeup Perfect Refining Foundation (launching February 2011) to even the skin tone and to cover up redness or blemishes. Page then applied Makeup Natural Finish Cream Concealer where extra coverage was needed; concealer was not applied near the eyes. Next, Page applied a dusting of Makeup Translucent Loose Powder all over the skin, to achieve a matte finish.

To create rosy cheeks, Dick applied a combination of Makeup Luminizing Satin Face Colors in Orchid (RD401), Tea Rose (RS302), Petal (RD103) and Carnation (PK304) high on the cheekbones and close to the eye area; the combination of colors depended on the natural skintone.

EYES
To create a dewy effect, Dick applied Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment on the eyelids, and a trace under the lower lash line. Next, Page sketched right into the upper and lower lash lines with the Makeup Smoothing Eyeliner Pencil in Black (BK901); application was sketched and looked “scrubby.” Page then applied a second light application of the Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment over the eyeliner to give a “melting” effect.

LIPS
For the “matte, intense lips” Page was going for, he smoothed the surface of the lips by prepping the lips with Benefiance Full Correction Lip Treatment; lips were thoroughly blotted with a tissue to remove excess product. Page then applied Makeup Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Day Lily (OR418) and again blotted the lips with a tissue to remove excess product. Next up he applied a thin layer of Makeup Translucent Loose Powder under the lower lip line to catch excess product. With a clean fluffy brush, Page applied an orange high-pigment powder over the lipstick to intensify the color.

Elisa Ferri (assisted by Roxanne Valinoti) for CND created a bright and beautiful pink pedi using two coats of CND’s Raspberry Parfait. The color added an extra kick to the bold stripes of color that strutted down the runway. Manis were done in custom mixed Perfectly Bare Colour and Super Matte top coat.

Covet This: NARS 2009 Holiday Collection

What a year it’s been for NARS, eh?! Celebrating its 15th Anniversary (which, sadly, is most of my life), they pulled out every trick in the book to have us beauty girls addicted and begging for more. From bringing out Mr. Nars himself to the runway for Marc Jacobs (he did the makeup for Jacobs’ Fall 09 AND Spring ’10 shows) to making special in store appearance in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York (which I missed), this is one busy man dedicated to bring out the beauty in all of us!

How do you top it all off? Can there be anything..ANYTHING…that will have you drooling by the end of this post? I’m sad you had to ask my friend. I present to you- NARS’ 2009 Holiday Collection:

NYFW S/S 2010: Marc by Marc Jacobs

For the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2010 show, Shiseido’s Artistic Director Dick Page created a quintessential punk rock look with a “painted on lip color” that was “inspired by the bright clothes”.

Lips were prepped with Aquafor before applying color to the lips. Next, he applied Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge Lipstick in Fuschia (RS320) followed by a high pigment bright pink powder. The lips were completed with a dusting of the Translucent Loose Powder from the Fall 2009 Collection.

Eyes were left completely natural. Dick then used the Natural Eyebrow Pencil from the Fall 2009 Collection if needed.

Whatever Lola Wants…

Marc Jacobs has added yet another fragrance to his repertoire and her name is Lola.

LOLA is a warm floral bouquet- my favorite kind- and is irresistibly alluring, vividly tempting. The fragrance is an intoxicating swirl of rich layers, wrapping the skin in sensuous florals blooming with a signature of the fuchsia peony.

LOLA sparkles with fruity topnotes of delectable bright pink peppercorn, seductive pear d’anjou and succulent ruby red grapefruit. The ultra-feminine heart is highlighted by the lavish dischia peony with soft touches of rose and geranium.

The base lingers on skin exuding a warm and seductive aura with enveloping notes of smooth vanilla, tonka bean and creamy musk.

Lola is described as Daisy’s [Jacobs’ famous perfume] “confident and slightly vampy older sister”. To add to her alluring air, it will be exclusive to Bloomingdales for 1 month before going into wider distribution

Available August 2009 (exclusively at Bloomingdales) and September 2009 at select specialty retailers nationwide.

MEET FRANÇOIS NARS TOMORROW!!!!

After making a comeback to the runway and creating 65 different makeup looks at the Marc Jacobs show this past February, François Nars- THE François Nars- will be making his first personal appearance in about 10 years!

I’m literally dying right now.

In celebration of NARS 15th anniversary, Mr. Nars will be signing copies of his books X-Ray and Makeup Your Mind as well as the limited-edition NARS Loves San Francisco Set at Nordstrom San Francisco Centre.

Both books will be available for sale at the NARS counter during this event. X-Ray is the wildly successful photography book and a total collector’s item.
