First Impression: Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous Foundation Review

Covergirl Outlast Stay Luminous Foundation soft sableA few days ago, I attended the launch event for a new CoverGirl product launch, featuring the one and only Sofia Vergara. She’s everything you imagined her to be and more. Sofia is the face of the new Outlast Stay Luminous Foundation, available in drugstores this spring.

This is an oil-free formula that promises to give your skin a natural luminosity that lasts all day. As an oily girl who prefers a dewy matte finish, I was intrigued.

quick and easy

I spent the bulk of my fashion week experience at the Style Coalition Influencer Lounge (sponsored by COVERGIRL and HP) where I was introduced to some pretty new makeup. Have you heard about COVERGIRL’s new nail polish?

Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Out of the Blue

I was intrigued because it has a built in base coat, color, and top coat which is guaranteed to save time. I’ve seen fellow beauty bloggers rave about this product so I was curious. Unfortunately I kept on switching manicures during NYFW to really test if the claims were true (I was very non-committal) but the colors are pretty intense and dried fairly quickly. The brush wasn’t too wide or too thin making application pretty easy (and even if you’re attempting nail art, you can get by). I think I’m most impressed with the color payoff. The blue you see above is a true blue and only took about two coats to maximum impact.

Have you tried these? Do you like?

what’s in my makeup bag

I carry way too much makeup for my own good BUT I like to be prepared. Since I practically rush out the door, I tend to do my makeup on the bus.

eww! gross! do that sh*t at home! WHATEVER!! It’s my business.

I recently read on The Cut that people think it’s disgusting to do your makeup in public and while my mother will agree, I truly don’t give a damn. It takes me close to two hours to commute to and from the city, and I value what little sleep time I have so I slap on foundation and do the rest on-the-go. So deal with it. I’m too lazy to wake up even earlier to do my makeup - plain and simple. now, it’s not ladylike at all but hey, it’s makeup going on MY face. It’s not like I’m PEEING in public thus effecting your commute with horrible unsanitary conditions and stench. amiright? Maybe one day I’ll stop. ’till then here’s what I schlep with me on a daily basis.

Beauty Tips From Amanda Peet

As someone who recently took their braces off, I’ve become pretty obsessed with whitening my teeth (and it pains me everyday that I had a root canal on one of my front teeth…*weeps*).

When the opportunity to came to test drive Crest’s 3D White 2 Hour Express Whitestrips (promises to brighten your smile in two hours giving you results that last for up to three months!) and the brand’s 3D White Advanced Vivid Enamel Renewal Toothpaste, I had to take it up! The Crest 3D White Advanced Vivid Enamel Renewal Toothpaste lifts and polishes away surface stains with patented micro-cleansing whiteners, removing up to 90% of surface stains in just 14 days while also rebuilding tooth enamel below the surface.

Crest 3D White recently announced a new partnership with actress Amanda Peet to help spread smiles across the globe, by donating up to 50 smile surgeries to Operation Smile, an international children’s medical charity that help treat facial deformities such as cleft lips and palates all around the world.

Beauty Tips from Amanda Peet:

1. On set, when it is important to call attention to my smile, the makeup artist will often choose a red or dark lip color with a blue undertone, allowing my teeth to look even whiter.

2. A little lip gloss goes a long way! I make it a point to sneak some on before photos on the red carpet to make sure I look polished in every shot.

3. Pick a feature and stick with it. If you go with a bold lip color to enhance your smile, then tone down your eye makeup. If you go with the eyes, then go nude with your lips. No matter which you choose, a brilliant white smile goes with both!

4. A makeup artist once shared this tip with me: when attempting to keep your smile white, try drinking soda or coffee with a straw to avoid direct contact with the teeth.

5. I am constantly on the go, so I always make sure to carry my favorite beauty products with me in case I’m in a bind! I love the Olay Total Effects Eye Transforming Cream to keep my skin moisturized, and a bright pink blush like CoverGirl’s Cheekers Blush in Plumberry Glow gives my skin a more youthful look.

I’m currently in week one of testing the toothpaste and have seen a slight difference. While my teeth aren’t on the level I’d like them to be, they’re definitely looking better than weeks prior. When it comes to the 2 Hour Express Whitestrips, my interest level skyrocketed. My girl over at BeautyLogic has recommended them to me on several occasions and now that I have a sample at hand, I’m eager to try it out this week and let you know my thoughts.

The 2 Hour Express Whitestrips retail for $54.99 which includes 1 box of 4 whitening doses while the Advanced Vivid Enamel Renewal Toothpaste in Renewal Mint retails for $4.25. Both Crest 3D White products are available at mass retailers and drugstores nationwide.

Beauty on a Dime- Sam Fine Tells Us His Must Haves

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting makeup artist Sam Fine. In the middle of Duane Reade.

Fancy, huh?

The makeup artist extraordinaire was on deck dishing tips and tricks for women and filling in a couple of beauty bloggers on his favorite makeup items that don’t break the bank. Now Fine has worked with some of the most amazing faces in the industry, including Jennifer Hudson, Iman (!!) and Vanessa Williams to name a few. Duane Reade has revamped its beauty section and has turned it into the Beauty Look boutique, where you can get a range of cosmetics- from Maybelline to Becca- all in one convenient area. The Beauty Look is undoubtedly a departure from the typical drug store experience as you’re allowed to test (some) products on the spot before purchase.

As Fine walked through the boutique, he dropped his pearls of wisdom on us plainfolk- and believe me, I was taking notes! Here are some of his tips:

  • If you can’t master the dramatic liner when using liquid liner on your lids, try using a felt tip liner.
  • Bronzer warms up your face and makes it luminous, so why would you want to give that up once the seasons change? Use bronzer underneath blush- even in the winter- for a glow. What’s his favorite? IMAN Cosmetics Sheer Finish Bronzing Powder in “Afterglow”.
  • Toss mascara after 3-4 months. What is his favorite drugstore mascara? Covergirl LashBlast Fusion because it lengthens and adds volume all at once.
  • The Revlon ColorStay Mineral Finishing Powders are a must!
  • Tip for the fellas: when your girlfriend/ sisters/ wives are getting ready to toss their mascaras, snap it up to touch up your mustache and beards
  • For lips, Sam adores by Covergirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor stating that the color would not budge when he used it on the set of Brandy’s commercial way back when. Although he did warn that you only had a couple of seconds to work with the product before it set.
  • Women of color listen up: if you’re having trouble looking for a foundation or powder in your shade, head on over to CoverGirl. Fine swears that no other drugstore brand goes as deep in shade as CoverGirl’s Queen Collection does.
  • When using foundation, don’t even think about skipping out on powder! Apply a bit of powder to your T-zone or wherever you get oily to keep the shine away. Sam recommended Iman Luxury Pressed Powder. If you’re not a fan of foundation and want to use powder solo, Fine recommended moisturizing the skin, tissue off any excess and apply powder.
  • When trying to hide acne, rather than layer tons and tons of product on your skin, use a heavier formula and just use less of it. This is genius. Skip the liquid concealer and head straight for the heavier creams, honey! Brown girls head to Black Opal.

Lastly, remember “Makeup is a personality” so have fun dolls!
